Need Excellent Mechanic in Portland Area

I have a 1984 318i with a mysterious problem (I have had it to two mechanics who were both stumped). I need an excellent, experienced mechanic who is conversant with older bmws.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Terry, at pacific motorsport is THE guy for old bmw stuff.

there's a few guys there who are great with E30s, but Terry seems to know everything there is to know about them.

Thanks very much for the suggestions. I have a few more avenues to explore on my ongoing misery, but if I can't figure it out soon, I will be looking for some expert help.

It would probably be cheaper to get a new M10 than to pay a mechanic to find a problem and then fix it.

lots of issues ive heard of over the years. very incompetent mistakes etc. i.e. 4 out of 8 (i think) transmission bolts reinstalled after clutch changes etc. ask tom (mot on here) about his experiences with them.

With my E30, I've had good luck with Pacific Motorsports, and German Autowerks in Hillsboro as well. I can't say the same for Autohaus Bayern though.

I suppose it would be cheaper, but I would be buying another older car and a variety of new problems would come with it. Besides this is more than a a car to me, it is really an old friend. It has carried be around for almost 20 years now and I plan to take care of it in its old age. Except for this most recent mystery, I have been able to repair it myself and enjoy driving it. It has been reliable and a lot of fun.
