so ever since i got my last bimmers, ive met some cool ass people and were holding a meet at the downtown varsity on thursday. it should turn out pretty good. we already have like 10 showing up. lets get some more euros!!


WHAT: EURO MEET (MAINLY EUROS, BUT ANY CARS ALLOWED)

Driving through ATL dozens of times to and from FL, I always thought about stopping at the "famous" Varsity. This last trip earlier this month, we decided we'd stop on the way back for our lunch break. My wife had seen a bit on Food Tv about the place, but all the reviews I read said skip it - it sucked.

It was as I expected - horrid. My wife and kids were really disappointed. The counter staff is less than polite, they got the orders wrong, and that sewage they call chili????

Then there was this bozo in the lobby trying to sell his "famous" pencil drawings of ATL landmarks. They looked like middle school work at best. Laughable.

The drive up service they have (we didn't go that route) and the 50's style is kind of kitschy, sure, but I'd have been happier getting Sonic.

While I am partial to Cincinnati style chili on hot dogs, I can appreciate the Chicago and NYC ones done up right. But those things at the Varsity, I wouldn't feed to my dog.

The varsity is a tourist trap. I have multile braves tickets (@20) sitting in front of me from this season, each ticket yields a free chilidog at the Varsity. Guess how many I have used?
Dave, next time you are coming through town let me know. I will take you to Skip's http://www.skipshotdogs.com/, Woody's http://atlanta.citysearch.com/profil...ladelphia.html, or Harold's http://www.choppedonion.com/id45.html, you won't be dissapointed. Don't blame Atlanta on your touristy notions of what the television said, or what is an "Atlanta staple". Atlanta is full of cool "underground" cuisine, and littered with lots of upscale dining that will please the pickiest of foodies. If your kids are old enough (which they probably aren't) you should try The Vortex for burgers http://www.thevortexbarandgrill.com/, it was on Food network and they don't dissapoint, the only thing is the one by my house does not allow children under 18. The one in midtown may though. Atlanta far from sucks man, just like your hometown, you would be better off with a local who knows the city then to drive in and stop by yourself.

I keed - I have had a good meal in ATL before. And it is a decent town. The airport sucks balls, but the town itself is not too shabby.
