I live in Charlotte which is about 20-30 minutes south of Huntersville. Its pretty expensive up that way. There are other areas that are cheaper.

What price range are you looking for?

Ive been to Huntersville allot and like it, just not shure where are the "good areas".
Sorry if it sounds stupid lol..

Most of the people who work there live in Charlotte so i guess the drive isnt that bad.

        Are gated communities expensive there?
Price can go up to $350,000 but less is better LOL

          I live in Huntersville...Its a nice place.

If you want land/room you will need to look to the E or W (Linconton/Concord). Otherwise it will get very very expensive. The lake is the most 'desirable' area, but its expensive to be right on it in a nice area.

We (wife and I) really like Davidson, but depending on where your coming from in the afternoon, the commute will be awful.

Taxes are higher in Mecklinburg county than the surrounding area.

If you care about schools, I don't have much information yet (our son is only 19 months old). But I will say we are going for private school.

I can try to help more if you have specific questions.

Oh, check out http://www.carolinahome.com/. Its easy to search there using the map (its how I am looking for land). Highway 73 is the big road here. Start where 73 and I-77 intersect and just look to each side. If you care, there is a Nuclear plant on the S side of the lake right off 73 where the river comes off the lake (but dont worry about it! I work there, we are very very safe).

I would avoid Moorseville, its popular but a nightmare (traffic, commute, etc...Im not a fan)

I used to live in Huntersville. If your work is there, it's a great place to live. Cheap too. I lived in a pretty cool neo-traditional neighborhood called Vermilion. Walking distance to the town square, a couple restaurants and the elementary school. Check it out.

East side of Mooresville is nice (not the lake side...that is a nightmare). If you have kids in school (especially middle and high school aged) the Mooresville graded schools are the best in the area.

It would be an easy 20 minute commute to Huntersville. Let me know if you need any more info.

In Huntersville you are dealing with Mecklenberg schools...nightmare.

BTW my parents currently live in PR, but are planning to move back soon.

Huntersville is in Meckelnburg county, which encompasses Charlotte and some of the surrounding towns. If you live within the county and elect to use public schools you are required to use the schools in your area.

As for the school district, because of the large population, you have county school resources stretched across more students. Also with a large population you get more bureaucracy and bullshit with the school system. Now, I don't have children so I can't speak from experience, but from what I've heard from friends/coworkers with children is that the Charlotte-Mecklenburg system is subpar. You can always go the private school route if you're willing to pay for it, at which point where you live doesn't really matter.

My personal opinion is that each school and system has both good and bad teachers, so experiences vary. It's this way up through the college levels too.
