    Fall 2013 Brodeo planning thread

With the last week of October only 18 short weeks away, it's time to start thinking and talking about what we're going to do.

As most already know, Look Rock has fallen victim to sequestration until (at least) the end of this calendar year, so we're going to have to find another spot. I know some discussions have already taken place about potential alternate locations. Four months is going to go by before we know it, so the sooner we try to get things organized and settled means we won't be sweating it at the last minute.

Abrams Creek, which is the closest site to Look Rock (and The Dragon) is also closed for the year. Cades Cove has a couple of "group campgrounds" which will allow max of 30 people; one of them has a pavilion. What's the opinion on it?

I agree we have to start thinking about it. There are tons of campgrounds in the Dragon area and over by Robbinsville. Many have group sites but the one problem we ran into is they only have parking for a few cars or a bus at best.

It is time to get moving on it.

The SC boys stumbled across the punkin center a few years ago.

Looks like they have group camping, not to mention a pub. Might be worth a shot.

...we prefer to remain as far "Off The Grid", as possible.

                Location-wise at least, that's a good spot.

We are going to try and make another run into the area to see if we can find something more to the liking...

Skeeneh has put up with ZRX Shenanigans right out front of the campground no problem with about 75 rex freaks....burnouts, wheelies, even a gunshot didn't slow them down last year!!!! So a catfight shouldn't be a problem!:mrgreen:

In addition to finding a site, we need to start thinking about possible dates...

Cade's Cove can be craptacular if there is a lot of traffic or heavy patrols.

Fontana can be a little pricey, but the cabins are nice.

Used to go every year for Miatas. The best place I stayed was sharing a house with 8 or 9 other people a couple miles from the 28/149 split. Cheaper than most of the resort and hotels. Have also stayed at the Phillips Motel (in Robbinsville), nice old lady owns it and they have a little diner. Close to groceries, restaurants, etc. Not off the grid, but more centralized.

From what I understand, Cade's Cove has been crossed off the list permanently.

I think the Brodeo has traditionally been a tent camping event, and there are usually 25-30 that show up. I don't know how well it would work with that many trying to coordinate cabins or rental houses.

The only time a hotel came in to play was at the last one, when it was raining so hard and for so long it was impossible to set up on the first night.

That said, a Brodeo one day in the future will see me in an RV with one of the E30s in tow.

Looking into a house that is large to just rent out might be fun. Or cabins.

Or just 'rough it' and all stay at the Robbinsville Microtel. When I rolled up there to McDonalds was POPPING at 11-12 at night. Lots of camo, trucks and 'party'.
