Go high enough into the mtns it is no longer hot... Last year in August it was 69 degrees at Clingmans Dome in the afternoon..

If you're planning on bringing firewood make sure it's not from one of these states. :mrgreen: The NPS doesn't understand warning! Be hell to get busted for contraband firewood.

Quarantine Notice: Firewood from the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, New Jersey and New York can not be brought into the national park. The United States Department of Agriculture has quarantined firewood from these states to prevent the spread of highly destructive insects that may be living in the wood.
