Temp sensor honestly could be what it needs. It could be dumping more fuel then needed due to the computer seeing a colder temp.

Thinking about running some octane booster filled up with premium.

Just did a full tune up.

    Valve cover gaskets and grommets
    Spark plugs
    Fuel filters
    Air filter
    Oil and filter change
    New water pump
    New thermostat
    New oxygen sensors
    Cleaned idle control valve

    I attached the emissions report.

I also have a coolant temperature sensor to install when I test the FPR.

    Am I missing anything big?

Have you done any kind of tune up? Plugs, filters? Stuff like that. It seems like your car wants to pass its just not getting a complete burn. Does it have anything like oversized injectors or a chip or anything? My e30 wouldn't pass but I was also running oversize injectors on a stock tune.

Failed again. Runs perfect, no dash lights. Idles great. Passes all other parameters by a large margin.

    Hydrocarbons - 290 ppm with a 220 ppm limit, 800 rpm.

I guess I need to find someone who will pass it for cash.

Well after replacing the oxygen sensors it runs much better. And no intermittent check engine light. Smells like it is idling much leaner. Gonna take it to the station on Monday when I can get a fake tow vehicle to follow up there. Will leave with a green sheet if all goes well.

God I hope so. I don't want to continue fixing other things until it is Texas titled, registered, inspected, and plated. And the inspection is holding the other three up.

Once I get the sensors I'll drive across town and fill up, the vacuum line idea may work... haha. 100 ppm is so damn close.

I think you can get a 30 day temp tag from the tax office. But yeah im willing to bet if you got some highway miles on it before the inspection it would pass.

It has a MAF, I don't have plates or tags on it so driving it is asking for trouble so I can't put miles on it... I let it idle for 20 minutes then drove 5 minutes to the inspection station. Then waited 20-30 minutes.

Hell you could probably pull a vacuum line and lean it out just enough.

Does it have a vane type afm like the e30s? If so there is an adjustment screw on the afm that should lean it out far enough to pass. Also how much was the car driven before you had it tested? I can inspect but I really cant do anything sketchy where I work.

Anyone have a "inspection" guy? The E34 failed HC emissions at idle by 100 ppm... I have new o2 sensors arriving tomorrow but I need a backup plan if this doesn't fix the problem. Everything else passed by a large margin.
