Keep DS in abq or repaint aw2?

Like it says, I've got a ds 318 that I'll be moving to ABQ. The paint is heavily oxidized and riddled with rock chips. The question is whether to repaint in original color or go to alpeinweiss. Ive always liked white e30s anyway but with a 20 year old AC I'll take anything that will keep the car cooler.

    Thoughts?

I like alpine. Jintermont has an AW 318is in ABQ and his cousin has a 325i in AW. Without AC, you'll definitely enjoy tinted windows. I never had tinted windows there, but the sun does take it's toll, especially with leather interior. Are you planning on doing a full repaint?

my two fave colors, but it would have to be an alpine white iii (300) before i would make a color change imo. 181 is a tough color to let go. gl with your decision.

I really like the 181, but I'm just thinking about keeping it cool. Baking a black car in the summer sun with vinyl interior seems a good way to get third degree burns! Then again maybe I should just keep it the same color and get some tint. Its getting a full respray.

Honestly, the NM sun can get through anything. If you're main concern is the interior getting hot, it's going to happen regardless. I like diamantschwarz a lot and I can't remember seeing much in ABQ.

The best things you can do to prevent those pesky burns is tint, sunshade, and the lingering thought that the seatbelt buckle is always out to get you. ;)

OK, then, another question: is 35% tint good enough to keep the car significantly cooler? I don't want to go too dark, just because I don't like the look of it.

I think 35% would be ideal. If you go any darker, you're going to attract unwanted attention from the police and, also, it'll be harder to see out of at night.

Get a sunshade! It helps a ton.
