I am being offered a very nice 325is with 95K original miles for $1700. The car is in excellent condition, with absolutely no rust, and the interior is in great condition. Problem is the car has coolant in the oil, and white smoke is coming out the tailpipe. It does not smell like it's burning oil. The owner says it's the headgasket and/or head. He says the car has never overheated, which sounds a bit weird. I'm looking for a reputable mechanic who specializes/knows e30s. I have dealt with Renn motorsports in Hackensack and their rates are way too high. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Would prefer someone in the Kearny/Lyndhurst area.
Looking for a good mechanic/shop in northern New Jersey - HELP!

Check out my Leather Shift Boots for Sale HereOriginally posted by nandoalso, I can't think of any BMW special tools you need to do a headgasket on an M20. you could nearly do it with the trunk tool kit, some bubble gum, and string.

Thanks for the suggestions. How much should a headgasket job go for including parts, less than 1000? I mean it's a 4-6 hour job right? I would like to do it myself, but don't have a garage.Comment

Well....here is your chance to "upgrade to a M50 or S50 motor. If you're set on a M20..i suggest you buy a known running motor, change all gaskets and seals then install. 'To use your existing motor....inspect it to make sure head hasn't warped and all rockers are good. Or....take the car to a reputable shop.....let them do all the work and advise you on the most efficient way to fix the car.Comment
