BMW CCA Autox @ Nassau Coliseum, my 1st time

I'm going to be attending the autox the first weekend of August, it will be my first.

Do any of you guys head out? If so, do they rent helmets?

Also, as it is my first autox, does anyone have words of advice on how to prepare? My car is mostly stock, and I'm not planning on making any changes in the meantime, but wouldn't mind knowing if there is anything in particular I should do so that I am ready.

    Thanks!

    Thanks!
Normally they have a stockpile of spare helmets(my chapter does anyways)

    -Tires(Summer performance is a must)

-Suspension and other bits must be in good order. SCCA is very stressful on a car and worn old parts will fail here.
**H&R race springs with Koni SA inserts would cut time off if you are running stock suspension. It will also keep you in stock class.**

-Your battery MUST BE bolted or strapped down. I had a friend with a tie down strap, I almost had to go home the first time because of it.

-Check your belts for wear, they will be hammered on and I have personally broken a WP belt at an event.

-Walk the course layout and study the course online at your local chapters page. I know my chapter posts the course a few days in advance to learn it. It really helps put down better times vs learning from a few walkthroughs.

-Make sure you have a way to get home if something breaks(It happens). Tow truck or a friend to pull you home.

-Keep an extra throttle cable handy, I have broken a brand new one for some reason. And I have broken two so far at events. It is my curse lol.

Best advice is to remember to have fun, it is just cone racing. So don't let the ricers get to you ;) They always start something at the events I attend. But 9/10 it is other BMW owners that start the competitive nature.

      It's $5 to rent a helmet.
      I'll be running tech there.

Wow, thanks for the thorough answer. Suspension work is in the plan down the road, but the PO installed billy HD's with oem springs about 10k miles ago before I bought the car so I'm in no rush to upgrade.

Will definitely give the car a solid check this weekend so I have some time to get everything in order.
