High rpm when start

hi guys I am extremely happy to be apart of this forum family! I have an issue with my 1987 325es. I was driving the other day cruising at 20 on a little street and then it went to high rpm and slowed down to almost or maybe 5mph! Tried to accelerate but wouldn’t let me. I went home and shut it off. Tried to start it and it starts at 2k rpm! I just changed my spark plugs and ignition wires. I know it could be many things just not too sure.

is the car automatic? is the throttle stuck open or maybe the door in the afm?
