stealth edit lol.. yes akard's car is a 318 with the same e30 rear suspension that e36 afficionado's seem to think is so inferior. talk with him about it sometime.. btw, quicker and effective <> best when on track. small increments are what your looking for.. remember smoother is faster.. :)

Kish, I do realise that smoother is better but I am a bit puzzled by the statement that getting more speed at the exit of a corner is not the best thing on a track, provided that you maintain control of the car in all other respects of corse. We'll need to discuss this with coffee yes - and I keep petioning our Benevolent Ruler about Tea and Cars but he doesn't want to listen...Comment

Kish: then I don't understand what your objection to my statement is. Until geometry and/or physics changes, the E36 multilink suspension is better at controlling angles - this is not a matter for debate, but an inescapable consequence of how the pieces are made.
The effective tradeoff is between ~150-200kgs more weight - but arguably a better weight distribution - and a more effective rear suspension and more tire room, if you go the Akard route and get the rest of the pieces from the E36 anyways. Which is why I made a precise distinction on P/W ratios: you need those 200kg less to make the compromise work. And 200kg (1200 -> 1400 or 1100->1300) are quite a lot, thus sort of reinforcing my point. BMW must, incidentally, agree with me, given what they did with the M3 to make it race and what they changed in the Sport Evo - and the fact that they now race E90s, not E30s... :)
And the above are only really a consideration when you take into account class rules AND cars that are modified to that level. If you send class rules out of the window or you consider more stock cars and dare I say, less professional drivers, the situation changes again and not for the better.
But as has been said - religious matters are better left alone. Let's go back to petitioning the benevolent ruler... :)Comment

it doesn't bear out in practice however, look at the spec e30 vs spec 3 laptimes.. or KP vs Spec E36. it's not a religious argument but rather a practical one.. no one is arguing that e90 isn't superior. that's not even relevant to this discussion. I don't seem to recall BMW even racing e36s.. :)Comment

So back on topic...lets not spoil the Saturday morning conversation!
I'm getting quite a bit of interest from bimmerforums/fest/e90post/1addicts.
Come show some e30 spirit this weekend. They're coming out for US!- Frank
