Two hot stages with ziptie throttle control!

We made it! The 25th Anniversary of the New England Forest Rally is in the books and we finished!

Raced two 10-mile hot stages (and 30 miles of transits) using left-hand-controlled ziptie throttle cable strung through the driver's window. I worked the throttle, clutch, brake and steering, co-driver Dan Downey, also an E30 freak, worked the shifter (true co-driving!).

Story and pics are here: slapdashracing.com

More pics here (by the supah-awesome Pete Kuncis): http://www.onalimbracing.com/photos/..._Rally/125.htm

Of course, thanks to sponsors Cage This, BavAuto, Bilstein, Banchwerks, Integrative Health Services and Strange Brew Signs!

Also big thanks go to the Beliveau Boys Racing crew, who shared their service guys with us. Without them, we NEVER would have made it. Really.

Congrats! That was a great read. How could he read the notes and know you needed to shift?

Wow. That was inopportune. Did the hinge break? It's flimsy for sure!

I tried that on the highway once when my throttle cable snapped. I couldn't get the piece of wire to move freely with the hood closed though. Well done!

              Well, that breaks too.

I tore a DBW pedal at the track and a guy helped me by safety wiring loops to reattach the pedal to the base.

This is why Massive sells a machined pedal. Yes, it's a bit overkill, but that's fine haha

I'm going to need one, lol. I don't want a wonky pedal! my E30 has enough quirks. :p

                    Yes, metal pedal up next.

The hinge on the pedal flipped backwards and got caught underneath the metal lever thingy, then my foot kept getting stuck. So I would have to use exaggerated measures to step over the pedal directly onto the lever, THEN the f*cker snapped and the wire couldn't be re-used.

My guy rigged up the zipties so sweetly, it actually had a natural 'give' to it, so it was quite a fluid motion, like no harsh 'on' or 'off' feeling. And I got it to the point where it was almost like LFBing in a FWD car, I could gas and brake at the same time and the car would rotate like nobody's business around some of the tight turns.
