    It's ALIVE!!! (P2V clearance issues)

    Ok; thanks for all the help r3v!

    She is buttoned up and running. Took me a while as I had the piston 2 valve clearance issues.

    I do have some questions;

    How important is the timing cover gasket???

    This thing... I seem to have ended up with it...

    That cover keeps foreign objects out the timing case. My 325es has been missing that cover for 18 years and has been just fine. Most the M20's I have worked on were missing that cover. Just don't go dropping crap in there and you will be good. You can put the cover back on easily if remove the air filter box. It just snaps on from the back.

      Ok thanks.

      I don't even remember taking it off... So I wasn't sure when/how I did.

        Seems to me if nothing else that cover will keep your leaky valve cover gasket from ruining your timing belt....and it's easy to slide back in place

            itmsnaps on to the edge of the timing cover as I recall. Takes a bit of fiddling to position it but as long as you are careful not to bust the tabs it's not that bad.

            Let's say it's 1 f@$/;) C@&"/ on a scale of 1-5 :)

              This Piece snaps on to the drivers side of the upper timing belt cover from the back. Open the hood and look down from the drivers side at the alternator. Just above and to left is the backside of the upper timing belt cover (the timing cover the cap & wires bolt on to). On the backside of the upper timing belt cover there is a 1"x3" hole and you can actually see and touch the timing belt. This piece snaps on to the side of the timing belt cover and seals that hole. I'll try to find a pic.
