Its resprayed zinno right now, I'm thinking of either Henna or another variant. I know I'm sticking with "red" so I doubt I'll worry about painting the engine bay. All glass is out of car now, as well as door trim etc. So jams will be painted.

You'll like this shot then. Hard to imagine that 10 years separate the two.

The GTV was cool, but ended up looking like this. I miss it.

and the Sprint looks like this...

The nose looks a little bit better, but not by much. It needs everything including an engine. If you thought M3 parts were expensive, you haven't tried to restore an Alfa Sprint. I was quoted $1000 to recover two door panels, the front side markers are about $600 each (I just need the lenses but no one sells just the lenses). I'm guessing I'm looking at $4k easy to get the front end straightened out, another $6K for paint. The good news is that the only rust on the car is where the battery sat in the trunk. The trunk floor however has disappeared in that area. Its a big project that is going to take years to finish.

Sorry to see the GTV! The spring definately looks like a project! If you need any help with the Alfas let me know. I very close friend of mine has been working on them for over 30 years and knows anything and everything about them. He also has parts and parts connections to find rare hard to find pieces.

The Gtv was a write off. Since it was a unibody, the trunk floor buckled, both rear fenders buckled, the front cross member was torn loose. It was bad. I sold it to someone who said they were going to put it back together, but I haven't heard any word on its resurrection. It was a good car. I got it after it had been sitting for 30 years (1976 was when it was parked, I got it in Oct '06, and put 1000 miles on it over the Christmas break in '06. ) The funny thing was the previous owner couldn't remember why he parked it.

The Sprint on the other had was bought as a parts car in the early '70s and left in a barn, on a dirt floor.

Its got a period correct Nardi steering wheel and had half a 750 Veloce 1300 motor. It was missing the head and cams, and the bottom end was frozen. I was able to sell the motor pieces off, but I haven't found a replacement one. The car is sort of on the back burner for now. I'm trying to save up to get the body work done. I've been looking for a new front nose section, but I've been told that since the cars were largely hand built, one nose might not fit another body. I must say its kinda cool pulling a trim piece off and finding a builders notes or something written on the inside.

          alfa

I had (2) alfas in day. 74' GTV and 74' spider. I thought the GTV was the best handling & most well balanced car I've owned ,love to have another. I've owned a few great cars including SCCA for 10yr. Joe

What a trip. I've never met anyone else with my name! I mean there's Gwen Stefani's kid, but other than that I've never even heard of anyone else with the name Kingston. And he's in the KC area? Just too weird!

Nice rebuild. I can't wait to do mine.

Looks like you did a stocky rebuild, I am unsure to rebuild stock or go heavily modified. Driven both a stock car and a 292/284 cammed car and i think I prefer the stock car on the road.

                Go the HENNA!

                    Body Work

Well, stripped the car down last week in preparation for paint/extreme body work. Still need the glass guy to remove the rear window.

My bodyshop manager called me when the pulled the front glass. I knew something was up...

I knew I was going to find some rust around the windshield, but not this much. Material is completely gone. I need to pull the dash(needed to do this anyways, as I have a new dash) to see how far down it goes, and what approach we will take it. Worst case scenario is to rebuild the sections with just stock material, or hopefully I can find a parts car and cut out the section(s) I need. Fortunately, this is the ONLY rust on the car, minus 2 spots on the sunroof panel. No rust in rear of car or under carpets.

On a side note, I have decided to repaint the car Henna. My original choice was "Toner Red", just red out of the can. But Henna has won my heart over!

Don't be discouraged. That is quite common on m3's especially cheap ones. I would advise u to keep the same color but its your car.

Yea, the color choice has been a hard one. I've always had zinno cars, but since I've had so much time/$$ in this thing I want this thing to be "mine". And as always, nothing is 100% set in stone...

Stay Zinno if you want any money out down the road. Besides Zinno looks very good when fresh and Henna tends to fade faster when exposed to a lot of sunlight.

Your car and Yan's are three apart. your was built on 9/25 and his 9/26. 203 interior code is black?

Very nice project what was the rear damage?

Thought about imola, but would like to stick "period correct".

I doubt changing the color of the car will effect the price that much, but it is something to consider.

That's cool about Yans car. I've met him a few times when he was stationed here in Wichita, and have never seen his M3. He had a 318(?) when he lived here. Nice guy. And yea, black interior.
