California Dreaming - beginning to plan my move westward, need r3v's input

You better be fucking rich if that's your plan.

More to consider:
-The weather is WAY nicer in the east bay.
-Commuting into the city can be done through Casual Carpool (free), Transbay bus, BART, Ferries, and driving (terrible idea). Some options are better than others, but the commute is always going to be tough.
-Driving into Oakland/Berkeley from the north or east is miserable. Always.
-If you want to have time to enjoy life, you're going to have to pay whatever it costs to live near work. If you want to save money or can't afford to live close, your free time will be spent commuting.

Don't get me wrong, the bay area is a nice place with cool stuff, but it's not necessarily an easy place to live.
