I dynoed my m20 2.7 with a 304 degree schrick cam, and I can tell you that power started dropping off at around 6800 rpm, so I believe a rev range that goes up to 7k rpm CAN be useable with the right cam. I had no headwork at all btw.

probably, with a 304 cam.. not exactly what I'd consider a "street" cam, but I guess it depends on your tastes. FWIW, I enjoy the power band of my motor, torque starts at 2500 and goes all the way to 6. But it's currently untuned and restricted by shitty exhaust and the stock intake setup (with that barn-door air meter). Soon to be rectified. :)
