    alumnimum jackstands? harbor frieght

I just got a pair of these. They are pretty awesome since they are so light. But curious about how safe they are. I really doubt they are made from high quality aluminum for $35 a pr. Any reports of them failing?

Put your car up on 1 of them and then shove it around. If it doesn't fail I'd trust it.

my friend has been using a pair for a few years. they seem good.

no issues. of course, issues with a jackstand are going to be either none or catastrophic. lol.

He's had them for barely a year, not years. I would know - I was there the first time he used them!

Either way, so far they have been great, no problems whatsoever. We both have the aluminum and heavy steel jack stand sets from HF. no complaints so far.

I got a set of the aluminum jack stands for when I bought the wrecked e36 M3. It sat outside for months on the stands, no issues to report, they worked great. I would not hesitate to buy a set, especially at the price.

go for it then, just dont solely rely on a set of aluminum jack stands for a motor swap for obvious safety reasons.

this goes without saying, but there are different strengths of aluminum as any other metal out there. The box your stands came in should say what grade aluminum your jackstands are made of. look up a grade scale online and see what the durability level is. you should be able to make a judgement upon that.

How far are you carrying them?

I never exactly broke my back picking up a stand.. Maybe I have superhuman strength?

werd. I just have old steel jackstands. They can't even weigh more than 10 lbs. How do you manage to put your wheels on if jackstands are trouble?

i wouldn't buy any thing from harbor frieght, much less aluminum jack stands.
