    remote oil filter question

So last year when I turbo'd my IX I deleted the oil filter housing and installed a remote oil filter kit thats commonly used. I'm now reading that an oil thermostat should really technically be used and I do see that my oil temps generally sit around 140* F

Winter is coming up and I'm guessing I dont want to be driving around with cold oil for my 15 minute commute. Should I put the stock oil filter housing back on, and put the relocation kit where the stock filter would go? I did retain the oil cooler.

The tstat in the oil filter housing is designed to open and circulate oil through the oil cooler if it gets TOO HOT. I believe it's set quite high (350 comes to mind) and except under extreme circumstances will never open.

Hence there is nothing in that bracket that will raise your oil temp. I also think 140 is low for "normal" oil. Is your coolant at proper temp ?

yep, coolant is at 185-190*F all the time.

Thinking about it now, I believe I have oil going out from the motor into the oil cooler, then coming back in to the remote filter housing where the probe is sitting. Maybe I'm reading the cool temp coming back in.
