New Filler Neck - Complete with rust.

I bought a new filler neck for my car because the old one is very rusty on the inside.

The new one came with a bit of surface rust, I'm wondering if this is normal or not.

Anyone who has changed one of these, I welcome your input.

Haven't purchased a new one, but I'd wager that yours was just sitting around somewhere getting rusty, and that it isn't a normal thing to get a nice new rusty part.

I think I'll just clean it, coat it with some Gibbs and send it.

It's a shit load better than what's in there.

Could always leave it to match your orange build.

In that case I'd leave the current one in there, it's dropping rust particles the size of sea salt into the gas.

I felt the inside of it when I was changing the rubber hose...

Maybe you could epoxy coat the tube, there must be an epoxy out there that's fuel resistant.

POR15 fuel tank paint is pretty impressive. I wouldn't hesitate to coat the inside of that pipe with it.

Wurth also makes great product if you have access to their goods.

Regarding rust on a new part, no that is not normal in my opinion.

Never heard of wurth, I'll check that out, thanks.

Yeah, I cleaned it up, and painted the exterior, I'll check on the tube periodically, I imagine keeping the tank full more often than not will help.

Also, the new one didn't fit nearly as well as the old, it was almost too short, took several trial and error times to get it to fit.

                  This was the old one.
