'86 diving board rear to smaller '88?

I'm going to be swapping the larger '86 rear diving board onto the car for the smaller '88 bumper. I got the shocks too, since they are smaller as well. I was wondering if the shocks are a direct swap in the rear? I've never taken the rear bumper off, so I don't know if they are the same or not.

I don't think it would work
88's are facelift and the sides of those are a bit longer IMO

maybe can somebody clarify this, I've never seen diving boards :|

Langsten hooked me up, he said they are a direct swap.

        Thanks, Chris. ;)

Yeah direct swap. Just so you know, those smaller rear 88 shocks don't compress as much as the earlier shocks. If you plan on tucking the rear bumper further, use the pre 88 shocks.

wait a sec, your going to bigger bumpers?
do they tuck in farther than the smaller ones sit?

He's going from 86 to an 88 rear bumper and shocks. The problem is, the short 88 rear shocks won't compress as short as the longer pre 88 shocks. They may be shorter stock, but have far less travel. The shock body on the 88 shocks are very small.

Drill the shock's just watch out for the oil that comes out of them

                        It's VERY high pressure.
and I don't think the oil is friendly for your eyes, so srsly. BE CAREFUL when you drill your shocks.

The oil don't taste good either IMO.

Sometimes it isn't oil. When we did Josh's, this foam-like substance came out. Almost like silly string that was ground up. Very weird stuff.

It's much easier to take the shocks off the car and drill them then use a vise to compress the shocks, rather then using the ghetto drive-into-a-wall method.

                            Here is a write up:

the ghetto method is more fun and when your drilling get it started and just look away until you break through... it comes out fast and youll be suprized how much shit is in there
