automatic interchange help needed badly

Hello All
The automatic in my 87 325e is shot. can someone please tell me what other model and year automatics will work. I have found a 85 318i with an automatic are they the same? please help. the local pick and pull has a half price weekend this weekend and one of the yards has the 85 318i Also what tools should I need to take with me to the yard, have not pulled an automatic yet, Thanks.

Not sure the 4 bangers had the same auto tranny but if it says it's a 4hp-22 on the tag then yes it's the same. Pulling an unknown tranny from a pic yard is a lot of work with high risk that you get it installed on your car and it's junk as well. Better to buy a known good one off the forum and have it shipped to you. They're not that expensive as most guys view them as boat anchors!
