1st Prototype: New Rear Brace System.

    Available here: http://bmwzenperformance.com/e30-products.html

Here is a shot of the first prototype for the new e30 rear brace system.

As a fitment prototype, it is far from the finished product, however I thought some of you guys would enjoy seeing the first steps in it's evolution.

The actual test prototype is in the works...

    The Final Prototype:

    First production brace:

(fitment currently only for 9/87 and up e30 chassis coups and sedans)

      We really don't know yet...

The new rear brace will be in the $250 range but we haven't sussed out the additional trunk pan support yet.

I think this is a great idea. The options of rear tie bars for E30s has always seemed quite limited - certainly nothing anything like this has been available commercially (at least that I'm aware of). I'm definately going to follow the development of this.....looks very interesting.

Shit busting is the mother of invention...

Some of my friends, clients and the boys in the forums with high HP e30s were experiencing cracks in the trunk pan and a couple of outright massive failures.

So I did a little looking into what was happening... Been working toward the solution a while now.

It'll be a little while before the trunk pan suprt brace ready to go...

1st we have to fabricate the testing prototype...

Then work out any bugs before the final brace kit is ready...

The large bore throttle bodies won't fly... Too expensive to produce for what the market will bear...

Looks like a nice aftermarket part that many people will be wanting!!! Awesome!

Can I ask a question? I'm sure it's something you thought of. But with a trailing arm rear suspension, and the shocks that "float" more or less in the x-y plane, all the real loads are forces x-y into the sub frame. So....

The rear shock "tower" mounts do not carry any "side to side" or even "front to back" forces at all. The only force it receives is in the "up and down direction" or zed.

I only ask cause it seems like a lot of metal just to re enforce a part of the car that doesn't affect the suspension under load.

That looks like the support in the trunk of my friends 3.0cs.

I thought of that too. Maybe there is way to re-enforce the subframe itself?
