Windshield Trim repaint, cheap and easy

Decided to do some minor work to my car. The windshield trim is weathered and has the rusty color look going on. I wanted to get it back to black without spending a whole bunch of money. I started off by cleaning the trim with the bug and tar stuff. First i used the spray can then the other spray and i cleaned it over and over again until most or all the dirt came off. Here's some pics:

Prepped up and ready to go

    Comparison

It's definitely not perfect, as i pulled the tape off i accidentally peeled off some of the paint along. I'll probably do a respray next week. The whole thing took about an hour and a half. But overall i'm satisfied with it. I also need to do the rear trim.

    Thanks for looking.

Looks a lot better, I did this to mine because it had turned all orange also and at it made it look way better.

You can also remove the spline and replace it with black. Takes some time and patience.

          Looks much better, though!

              Nice work, good prep.

New one is 25ish and takes 10 minutes to install with the right tool.

I just called my insurance company and let the auto glass place do it for me.

                        Full glass coverage FTW.

I slipped near the bottom corner of mine on the rear and put a scratch in the top of my rear fender so deep I think I shit myself when I did it.

The black lockstrips look much better, but the rubber seal still fades and looks like ass, I'm going to PlastiDip mine.

OP - you painted the rubber too? Won't it come off easily?

My exact reason for using PlastiDip. Paint on rubber... not going to go well. I want pics in 2 weeks if you were actually goofy enough to do this.
