    Rear seat question

Two different seat seams. I was wondering if one of these is not OEM, or if it's a package difference or year. I have the first in my car. The seams are splitting and I am reupholstering them soon. I like the stitching and shape of the second image and I want to find out more about it.

    Image 1 - What I have.

    Image 2 - What I'd like.

    Current - 1991 E30 325i Auto Vert, 2013 F30 335i M-sport, 2014 F25 X3 M-sport
    Past - 1986 E30 325es, 1988 E30 M3, 1991 E34 535i 5sp, 1991 E31 850i 6sp, 1992 E36 325i, 1995 E36 M3, 2000 E46 323i, 2009 E60 535i, 2011 E90 335d

The second is the stock stitching pattern. Maybe the upholsterer did it that way as the stock stitching pattern was too difficult for them. Your side bolsters were done the same way.

Im not seeing seams in the second pic but that may just be the resolution. The bottom sides also look like the inner face was shaved flat.

Actually, I think you're onto something. I think the difference lies with cloth or vinyl vs factory extended leather. Here are my cloth seats for comparison.

Or I could be completely wrong altogether. :)

I have an OEM upper section in Uberkaro and it has a single stitched seam in the middle.

I think I may have made it sound like the first picture was my car. It's just one photo I found on the internet that showed what I was talking about. Here is my Indigo interior. Seam is splitting on the bottom, both sides, and the top. Also the top leather is split from age and dryness.

The seams are like the first image. I don't know if the leather is original or an old reupholster job. I've only had the car since April.

I highlighted where the seam is. I think this style uses more leather. I find it preferable and much cleaner though.

The top pic is regular convertible and the bottom one is mtech 2 (which is also the same as the M3).

First image is the regular convertible style.

Second image is the M tech style.

It's one of those little known subtle differences between regular convertible rear seats and M tech. In fact there's an entire thread on this somewhere.

Love the blue mtech. If anyone knows where to source this, do tell.

Yes, it's a different shape. The M tech seat is like the M3 rear seat. If you look closely, the center and the side cushions are raised.

Interesting! I always thought they looked different but never would have noticed.

I wonder if the foam is different or is it that the stitching makes it appear different.

                        Both are from convertibles.

Has to be different foam to be that different in shape.

I think the foam is shaped differently but I've never owned a regular convertible so I'm not sure. I'm sure Robrez knows though.

Find a poor design edition Cabrio from the UK and harvest it for its interior :)
