    Trans question for S52 swap

OK I was told by a source that the trans from the 318is and 325is (92-95) are basically the same and that either one will work behind the S52. These are the 250 Getrag units. I don't plan on having more than 280-290hp max from this engine and want to make sure I don't have to step up to the 320 ZF box from the M3 or 328is.

Also can I use the M3/328is 240mm diameter flywheel/clutch in the 250 trans?

Yes, you can use the M3 clutch with the Getrag 250. It's a common upgrade for E36 non-M vehicles.

However, I think spending the extra $150 or so on a ZF is a wiser choice--it can take more power.

It can take more power... but it all depends on what you want to do with it. For FI... ZF.... for everything else I think the Getrag will take what ever you throw at it. Plus, its cheaper!

The bellhousing on the 318 250 is smaller... my flywheel didn't fit in it. It fit in the 325 trans just fine.

As far as I know, they are the same otherwise.

OK so which flywheel/clutch can I use with the 250? Do I have to use the 318 or will the M3 fit?

The stock M3 clutch/ flywheel should fit, but some aftermarket ones don't.

Do you know for sure if the stock M3 flywheel/clutch will fit? Anyway to know before I spend the $ on them?
