I need enlightening on lightend flywheels.

hi guys. :D

need some help on lightend flywheel.

i took the stock flywheel to an engineer the other day. He was a bit dubious about lightening it, i.e didnt want any comebacks incase it went bang.

i just need to know howmuch is safe to take off in weight. and also what part do you take it off from? he was on about milling it at an angle?

i was thinking that it would just be milled flat off the back of the flywheel.

does anyone have any pic"s?

First, based on your username, I'm assuming your car is a either a 325i or 325iSport. If that's the case read on.

For the stock flywheel, it can be machined down some to help improve throttle response. Any competent machine shop could do it (providing they don't have the 'willy-nillys' about product liability). There's a vendor called Metric Mechanic that sells machined stock M20B25 flywheels for about $250. They reduce the weight down to roughly 12 to 13 pounds. I have one of these in my car now with a stock clutch and I've been real happy with the results.

My machinist had no trouble taking my flywheel down to 14-15lbs.

mine is 12lbs..... just took some off the back.... should cost around $120 to get it lightned and balanced... oh and get new hardware when you put it back on
