    ireland enginerign stroker kit

    I was looking at the 3 kits they have for sale and had some questions about them.
    first off are they worth it or would it be cheaper to piece together my own kit?
    I would most likely get the 3.1 kit if anything with a shrick camshaft and bigger injectors.

    What kind of power would i be looking at?
    if im spending this kind of money should i just go with a turbo?

    any info would be helpful thanks

        I'm thinking about doing this too. My concern is if it will pass smog. If you're looking for huge power then do stroker and turbo.

          I think you could piece a stroker kit yourself for a cheaper price. Let's not forget when you buy the ie kit that you will have to set aside more money for machining and building the engine.
          Let's say
          Custom Forged Pistons cost $800
          M52 crankshaft $250 (used)
          Main bearings cost $150
          That's a $1200 IE stroker right there that made yourself. With that $700 saved you now can afford the machine work that had to be done and probably add some headwork to the mix with the schrick cam your after it should liven things up a bit.
          I myself would never build a hot NA m20. I'd only go through this effort if I was gonna turbo on there. Or a 24v swap

            I wondered if you already had the car you intended to modify. Most basic questions like this can be answered by searching the forum or Google. No insult intended, asking them generally indicates you don't have the initiative to accomplish what you're about.

            150 - 200HP at the wheels, but 200 will require considerable effort.

            Turbo is the way to go if you want more than that from an M20, unless you have the funds to be different.

              put your own kit together. the only stroker really worth putting a ton of money into is a 3.1 liter with 86mm pistons and an 89.6mm crank. it all costs about the same - don't leave easy displacement on the table.

              89.6mm S52/M54B30 crank - $300
              pistons - $800-$1200
              rods - use S52, M54, or M52 rods (135mm) $200
              bearings - stock, $200

              that's $1500-$1900 (for MM 86mm pistons) for a better setup, and the IE kit doesn't include rods or rod bearings. their front crank spacer thing is JUNK too, talk to der affe for a better part at a good price.

              another good place to call, if you want to learn, is Metric Mechanic.

              a 3.1 shouldn't have a problem hitting 200whp+. you can't expect to do that without tuning and a cam to match the bottom end, though.

                ^^ I'll agree to disagree with nando on the crank nose piece. IE simply offers the kit and will suit what ever you're looking for. If you piece it together yourself of course you'll save money! Not really a matter of what is better or not.

                Jaker, have you tried calling IE? Jeremy usually handles the stroker kit questions.

                  I have not called them yet i am just currently trying to research all my options before i make the final decision on which route i want to go with my car. i am starting to lean more towards a turbo set up for the hp to money ratio seems better.

                    Putting together the kit and shrick cams sounds good. But would all this upgrade allow the car to pass smog?

                            There is an Aussie member here called Digger. He has a 3.1 m20 and is pushing 164rwkw which is roughly 220whp. I'm not sure if he got the IE stroker kit. Hopefully he could chime in on this thread he knows what he is talking about when it comes to power upgrades for an m20.

                              I Live in NH and dont have to worry about the smog and lets just say i get my inspection done by someone i know so it wouldnt matter anyways. ill give IE a call when i have some time
