Man m20's suck. lol. Made a huge difference though, engine revs so quick and smooth. The guys that installed and tuned the Unichip told me the engine has alot more power potential, if it is run on higher octane fuel. Right now the timing is adjusted to -8ยบ around the area of peak tq to prevent detonation, and similar retard throughout the main power range.

Buck-seventy huh? Does it feel that much more powerful than the stock 2.5? I guess I'm just asking how much more you felt in the seat of your pants? Is it worth it for an average guy to build a simialar stroker?

assuming a 15% drivetrain loss, that's ~196hp at the crank.. those are pretty good numbers for a 2.8.

plus with 200ft-lbs of torque, that has to be a lot more fun than a stock motor that makes MAYBE 170hp at the crank..

Those numbers covert to ~ 201.2hp and 207.1tq at the crank.

Its monsterously faster then a stock 2.5. No comparison.

FWIW David Lengths "balls to the wall" 3.0L stroker made 181rwhp and 189rwtq

A difference of 10rwhp and 13rwtq between his engine and mine.

I spent less then half the money on my motor he did. 8)

Think the power can be smoothed out at around 5200 where it takes a dump?

I'm sure it could. But I don't really care right now. The motor runs like a champ, and the pinging is gone. Throttle response is instant, and it just drives so nice.

Once I'm in TX I will have constant access to better fuel, the gas here in Oregon sucks (92) I still have a few more mods planned for the engine, that will help it out a bit.

Right now the engines biggest enemy to making more power is a lack of high enough octane fuel and the high compression ratio. The combination of the 2 require the timing to be backed off to much and it loses power.

That is a PERFECT answer to my question... I must build a stroker now.

                  That's awesome Jordo.

I want a ride in it, maybe bimmerfest 2006/7?

I'm sorry you didn't get up to the HP you wanted but look how flat your torque curve is...
That's what gets you moving and from the looks of that curve it probably takes off very nicely!

Yeah, the TQ curve is pretty damn nice. Say ~90% of my max TQ is available by 2250rpms. 1st gear is real fun.

That's nice and all.. I'm glad you're happy with it.
I would be a bit disappointed tho.. for all your efforts you came out with ~3.8 more hp per liter.
For the amount of money in it.. I'd have to say that a turbo giving 300+ hp is a better way to go.

Jordan, I'm glad its all worked out, it will be reliable for sure. I think the power is actually pretty good. I put out 154whp when I had my 2.8l N/A with small mods (just bigger injectors and afpr). So fuel tuning, head work, cam actually give you some pretty good gains.
Guys, his car has the same hp curve as a 3.5l m30! But ends up with more power (higher redline). I can guarentee the throttle response is awesome too (something I don't get as much of with a turbo in the way).

As Matt said, I'm pretty close to a stock M30B35.

Here is another dyno chart, me in blues and M30 in reds.
