no they are not the same. the premium speaker has the crossovers built in and the magnet is thicker.

So if you have aftermarket front speakers, get crossovers first before you install the tweets.

I am trying to hook up OEM tweeters to OEM premium front speakers. On the back of the OEM speaker there are 4 terminals. The large and narrow ones that look like they connect to the HU are on one side. There is a soldiered wire going through the thicker terminal that goes to what I think is the cross-over. There are two other terminals on the other side. Where do I hook the HU wires? Also did you hack off the blue pin connecter that goes to the tweeter? What the hell does that connect to? Thanks...

How to Wire Premium Speakers to Non-Premium Speakers

Here is a photo of a premium speaker with the tweeters attached to it.

          Here is a non-premium speakers

          Side by side comparison

          The crossover

Plug HU wire on the small spade

Plug HU wire on the wide spade. HU wires go across from each other.

          Hope this help guys.

Thanks, but a few more questions. I'm sorry but I still don't understand. What is the purpose of the black wire in this picture?

I have these connectors coming from my tweeters based on wire color.

This third connector is a spade connector that looks like it would plug into the premium speaker, but the wire is a different color.

So I'm assuming that's not related to the tweeter.

On the connectors that go do the HU there is a soldiered wire on the large spade that prevents the connector from sliding on. The wire is wrapped around the magnet and connects to the cross over. Do I need to shave this down? These speakers came out of a premium sound car. How did the original connecter slide on the spade? I didn't pull the speakers.

On top of the speaker next to the cross-over there are two connecters. These:

Somehow I need to connect these to the spades correct?

If that's the case I will need to soldier a new spade connector on to the blue pin wire. How did this connect from the factory? From your pics it looks like you soldier wires to the tweeter directly to the back of the speaker and not on the two spades next to the cross over.

okay the black wire connects the tweeter to the speaker and crossover. see the wire is soldered opposite each other. due that for the hu wire, but on the terminals that does not have anything soldered on to it or plugged in. Don't mind this because this is for the rear speakers. I just posted it as a sample how it's supposed to be plugged in.

blue speaker wires should plug into the terminals on opposite sides of the speaker. meaning one plugs into the crossover side and the other goes to the opposite side. you will see the size of the spades differ. just match the size of the spade.

the wide spade plugs into the crossover side and the small spade plugs into the other side of the speaker where there is no crossover.

then the wire for the tweeter that is already waiting, snip that terminals and crimp a T tap on it. Tap it into the small spade side of the HU wire.

attach speaker wires to available spade.

Exactly. That blue plug connects to the speaker negative on the premium speaker harness.

As Bernzie said, connect it to the small spade on the speaker, AKA the negative speaker lead.

Sorry for the ugliness, that is from my donor car which I followed so I can get the tweeter working.
christian, in this picture of the speaker next kick panel, is that a speaker from a non-ps car or a premium system car?

And does a ps car have a similar t -tap between tweeter and speaker?
