    Group buy: Subwoofer boxes

OK, guys, I have had many many people asking me questions about subwoofer boxes, and would I build and ship them.

Well, the simple answer has always been NO. Too much hassle to ship, whatever. Well, lately, I have been sitting on my ass with nowhere near enough work...so...now is the time.

I know with the holidays upon us, most of us are broke. I certainly am, so I feel your pain. But, if you can scrape up a few bucks, here is my deal:

Custom single 10" subwoofer boxes, built to fit your car precisely. Ported through the rear deck, but you have to cut the hole for the ports through the rear deck AND the metal under it. Your port tube will plug directly into the box, precisely correct.

Also included will be a template to make a perfectly fitting panel to dress up the back of the box. You can mount the amps to it if you choose. You could upholster it in matching trunk liner if you choose, or simply spray paint it. All you will need is a quarter sheet of 1/8" "Tempered Hardboard"

I can supply the upholstery material if you choose. You still need to cut the panel out using a simple jigsaw...easy stuff.

My woofer recommendation is the dirt cheap Sony from WalMart. Single voice coil, cheap ass $58 woofer, but absolutely fucking amazing sound IF you put it in the right box...and trust me, this is the right box. If you use the $100 Sony 4 channel amp also found at WalMart, you can run your front speakers off of the smaller half and have audiophile quality sound for a tiny bit of money.

So, get this: This is a GROUP BUY. I normally charge about $300 installed for these in my shop, and I am known for the quality of my boxes.

So, if I get between 4 and 6 people, boxes will be $175, plus shipping.

7 to 10 people will pay $150 each, again, plus shipping. More than 11 will bring the price down to $120.

These boxes will be made of 5/8" MDF, braced, 1.4 cubic feet total, so not exactly lightweight, but under 40 pounds, I am sure. Less than the trunks sound deadning, so if you pull it out, you will still be lighter than stock.

I need to know if you plan on using the sound deadning too, because it adds about 1/2" to the size of the box.

Payment will be in 2 parts. First is the total price of the box. Second will be shipping. I will build and ship all boxes within one week of receipt of payment. You will be billed for the total shipping charges (actual cost plus $5, likely greyhound, whatever works best for your particular application)

So come on R3V, help me stay busy during my second winter! Buy a box!

Sir, I would love to...but I have not built them yet.

Jordan had one of my boxes in his car, as does Browntown and jdaigner.

Oddly enough, mine is built by me, too!

I assure you top quality materials and workmanship. 100% seal into cabin, so no trunk rattles either.

Not that there will be any shortage of people to do so, but I'll vouch for Luke's boxes.

            very, very interisted.
I'll be getting a new E30 soon. Obviously the stero shouldn't be my first concern, but I wouldn't want anyone else building me a box besides you.

Count me in for the 7-10. Also looking to get an estimate on shipping to pittsburgh PA 15116.

Oh hell no...however, I certainly could. That box, empty, weighs about 65 pounds, requires significant metal cutting, and keeps me very happy.

The port tubes alone are about $50!

No, guys, we are talking about a simple angled woofer (see how the one in that post is vertical, so if and when I get my "Roundel Window" done the woofer will look pimptastic?) with a flat rear panel. Performance and craftsmanship, plus as small as I can make it with 100% performance.

I would also like to see some sort of picture.

Will these have the depth to mount a pretty hefty woofer, like a JL 10w6 or an alpine type-R?

Also, will these come carpeted or bare wood?

I'd luv to see a box IN and OUT of the car..........
I'd be into one if I didn't have my Microsub box from JL 3 8w6's w/ dual voice cold. Very nice with Focals up front

Well, I'm too lazy to take the box out of my car...so here are the photos in the car...It still needs to be upholstered. The top deck was graciously reupholstered by Luke w/ a port tube into the box. The sub in this case goes where a rear armrest would be if you had an armrest rear seat.

Yeah, I think a type R or a 10W6 will fit. I tell you though, that damn Sony from WalMart really sounds good!

Whatever you want to use for a woofer is no issue, really. Look for "Qts" to be under .4 and you will be impressed. Custom porting will be to whatever woofer you choose, so if you do decide to go for it, let me know, OK?

On the upholstery front, what I recommend is to use the template I will provide to make a rear panel that makes it look all custom. People always ask me where my sub is...and it is 2.7 cubic feet!

I can provide them upholstered or not, provide materials or not depending on what you wanna pay.

Looks like I will have to build my GF's subwoofer monday. Hers will have 1 very old school Cerwin Vega. I will take thorough pics and measurements. If someone wants to copy my shit, feel free.

As far as shipping estimates go, who knows. I need to find a good source to ship these cheap, so if anyone has any ideas, let me know on that, too.

Thanks for all the interest, guys.

I can get some pics of the box I bought from Jordan if that is the style you are planning on making. Luke built my box and it sounds fantastic.

You shuld have someone mass produce the boxes for you. You'd still make a hefty profit and not have to do as much work. I'm not sure how it works in Portland but in LA we have an automotive wholesale district where you can get whatever you want built for cheap as long as you have a license. Or buy a lot of stuff.
