    Resurrection of my coupe

    Resurrection of my coupe.

This is just a little journal about my coupe and its re-rebirth.

Its hard to believe that I have had my coupe for more than 5 years. It has never let me let me down…other than the one time it needed a drink of water about every 5 miles or so when it blew the TB cork gasket. I bought it bone stock. I don’t even have pix of it when I got it so I will go right to where it left off as being were it was its prime.

I had it right where I wanted it. Nice stance, correct wheels, euro tidbits here and there but then I bought my cabrio and brought it home. At the time, there was no fundage for both of these to sit nice. So I did something I was not proud of…I stripped my coupes goodies and swapped it with the cabrios. Which left my cabrio looking great. It wasn’t all lost as the cabrio did have new bilstein tourings and new Goodyear tires…195/70s!!! This is how its been sitting for about a year and a half. Ive been DDing it this way. Yes, its embarrassing.

It has been kinda nice. I don’t hafta worry about speedbumps, curbs, driveways, or other obsticals. And its comfy! J But I have little confidence in the turns. Even with its 4x4 stance, it still ran like a champ and what keeps me taking it out for little runs is the 5spd…so much fun!

So, I have the cabrio that I have always wanted and this coupe. I wasn’t sure what to do with this car. “Do I really need two e30s?” Its been my trusty steed and I could hardy think about selling it. What to do? Well, what anybody else would do…buy another one!!! Some may remember my MT2 Rescue.

So my coupe went farther back in my stash of cars. It remained parked over the summer until I sold the MT2. I think my coupe was pissed off at me so it thru up the SRS check light. I was still of the fence on what to do with it but then the a possible answer came in on a clist find. “FS-one e30 wheel”

He had three for close to nothing but only three so I had to come up with 1-2 more and scored!

I have always liked these wheels and honestly, was tired of cleaning weaves. (3 sets of weave cleaning broke me!) Some of you may know that this is a little out of my element as something not oem (euroweaves), but Im ready for a change. It was now settled…I am gonna bring here back and bring her back good so I can use it as a nice daily once again.

Refinishing the wheels was a bit more than I thought it would be but I was in deep and really wanted to make these work. Here they are after all the bends were removed, all rash rewelded, and media blasted. I just wetsanded them 400-600.

I was on the fence on what size tire to go with. 205/45/16 seemed to be pretty popular for a 16x7.5 wheel but they looked a bit small. Then I was going to go with 215/40/16 and again, a bit thin. I though about this for months and I just decided to go with some real rubber. 225/45/16. The day I decided, I searched clist and BAM!!!...my favorite tire is FS 1 mile from me. KDWs FTW!!! Still bound from shipping, 0 miles! You do not want to know what I got these for. :P

Im going to paint them myself with Wurth products sans the primer.

Since this is going to be a good DD, im going with what is tried and true for stance. Bilstein sports, H&R Sports, 15mm Drophats. You just cant go wrong.

I already have some Brembo blanks ready for it with new pads and fluids…of course.

Im pretty excited about getting all this done. This isn’t going to be a great build but just some documentation of my coupe. Updates will come! Cheers!

Man, I wish! Its cold here so painting is gonna take a bit longer that expected. I might have to break out the heaters so I can get some stuff done in the garage! The three final purchases are in the mail.

I pass more fellow e30s in that car than I do in my cabrio! All I am missing are white walls. Its not going to be nothing crazy. I just bought a good size compressor for hopes of prepping for paint. I have several pix of these wheels on members cars and whoa, nice!

Well I finally gathered up all the parts that I wanted/needed for me to be happy with its new look and feel.

                          The list:
                          Control arms
                          M3 CABs
                          Rear sway tie links
                          drivers front bearing
                          front Brembo Blanks
                          Front pads
                          15mm drophats
                          H&R Sport springs
                          Bilstein sports
                          Fuel filter
                          225/45/15 BFG KDWs
T-star reps 16x7.5 with new roundels
                          Shorty aluminum valve stems

and of course one new roundel for the hood to finish off this stage.

I have a really good feeling that this e30 is going to feel great and look killer!

You should do both wheel bearings. :)
Then you can pull your backing plates off your strut housings to clean and paint everything while you have it apart. Maybe do the LCAB;s and the inner and outer tie rods. kinda one of them "while your in there" things. Add a little piece of mind.
                            :)

Im right there with ya "while your there" things. Thats how this list got a bit out of hand. I needed a bearing, so while it out, might as well do the breaks. Then while inspecting, all bushings where shot on arms so that had to be changed, so might as well put new shocks/springs...etc. Im gonna stick with this list and wait for the smoke to settle from my checkbook.

Ill get to the rack later as its kinda seperate and rods still look good as they are not the original ones.

I have thought about spraying the struts and calipers too. I really just want to get out of my thirsty SUV and drive this e30. Not to mention its a$$ cold right now.
