My friend found an e30 m3 in someone's backyard

So he paid 3k for it and brought it home. He doesn't know a damn thing about this car except it "looks cool".

There is no coolant in the oil and it has a full tank of gas ( 10 years old minimum). There is 230k on the clock and looks to have had the driver's side fender repainted. All Vin's match and is still a clean titled vehicle.

So I get there and start looking it over/ripping out the interior. It looks to have been sitting since 2001 but I found rave tickets and venue information from 1995. So this thing has been under a tarp for many years. The interior is absolutely trashed. The motor supposedly has a blown HG and a bad sensor that isn't allowing it to crank over (yeah right). I did a quick assessment and whoever owned this thing previously was a genuine asshole.

The seats were held together by screws, Duct tape everywhere, including the steering rack boot on the drivers side, he cut behind the back seat with the jaws of life to fit 2 12 inch subs, there is what seems to be 3 alarm systems installed in the car and all the wiring is the most ghetto I've ever seen.

This list goes on and on but in the end, it is an m3. I almost want to offer him $3500-$4k and drop a 24v/ presentable interior and some nice wheels. This is one of those cars that given it's history, I almost don't think it's worth completely restoring back to perfection but it still would be nice to get the bodywork/paint redone and make it streetable again. Anyways, here a few pictures I took today.

I'm torn on what to do. I don't want my buddy bringing this one back up. He didn't even know what a jumper box was. The thought makes me cringe.

Oh it's an 87 by the way. The panel under the steering wheel that holds in all the wires and the pedals were held in by two self tapping screws, screwed directly into the dashboard.

First, murder the guy that did all that crap to it.

Second, offer your friend some cash for it.

Third, bring it back to life. Not a restoration, but just drivable condition.

+1. especially if you have the space, time and resources to do it right. You can rebuild everything (except the motor) for 5G on top of the price of the car. Add another grand for the motor - I would pull and rebuild it.

this is one of the most badass cars of all time, dont let it die.

I have no intention of letting it die. Not this car. An s14 rebuild does not cost a grand. A grand will get you a tear down and a long list of parts that need to be replaced. Ask Yan-3 and Ryan G. They know all too well.

Honestly, I think you should buy it from him. Granted, the major body work needed is in a nasty area but I think this would be a quality project. Put it on blocks, gut that bitch out, sell/scrap any and all parts you don't need, and turn it into a mean little track rat. If the interior is trashed, the motor needs work, and it has body damage then it's begging to be tracked. Or, part that bitch out and drop the drivetrain/suspension in your current e30. You cannot lose, sir. :D
