    89' s52 turbo build

    previous build thread.

I wanted to start a new one.

New southbend stage 3 OFE clutch kit. Came with new pressure plate, friction disc, and throwout bearing.

    Putting her in.

    went in without a problem.

first look at the new 24v engine in the e30. Finally!

had a little trouble finding a c101 plug to wire in the new harness, but i managed to find one on craigslist a few days after i started looking.

I had a few more wires left over that i wasnt expecting. I spent numerous hours going over the ETM's and am pretty confident in the wiring. We'll see though i guess. Still have to do c104 too.

Finally i can start putting parts back on the car.

Turnermotorsport m50 manifold conversion kit. came with car when i bought it, so huge $$ bonus for other parts. sold in a day on bf.

the engine is still sitting at a weird angle because i still have to mount the transmission but im waiting for the mounts to come in the mail.

I really wanted to see the fitment with the exhaust manifold and downpipe so i cut my battery tray and fit them in.

im going to cut it down some more and bondo it to give it a nice smooth transition.

    enjoy!

ive got almost the whole harness hooked up except two connectors. The guy i bought the harness from labeled them "cyl 1" and "cyl 2" doesnt make any sense so ive gotta go back to the ETM's and see if i can figure it out. also i dont think there is any way i'll be able to get the connector to reach to the oil pan plug. have any of you had this same problem? It seems like the VANOS solenoid connection is too short.

There is a BMW OEM VANOS extension cable IIRC.

I come up with this P/N, but I'm not sure.

There is indeed an extension cable, but it is not labeled for vanos use on a part directory. From what I recall, its used for extending the back-up switch on the trans. Luckily, it is the same exact connection so you can use it for pretty much any 2 prong connector

hmm i might have to get me one of those. Ive seen it posted on here before but didnt think to buy it yet.

what do most people seem to do about the oil cooler that usually sits under the radiator. this might be a dumb question but where do those two big hoses go?

its a two pin connector and the knock sensors are three pin connectors. that was my first thought. i checked the wires and the one marked cyl 1 is a brown/red wire and a brown wire. one marked cyl 2 is a brown/yellow wire and a brown wire.

                              Update:!!!!
                              It lives!!

Thanks to hoveringuy on r3v, we were able to get it started. I was three small steps away from starting it on my own, but thanks to his electrical genius he pinpointed the issues and fixed them in under an hour. Basically i had a power (totally black wire) hooked to ground, and a bad connection with the power from e30 fuse box. Completely stupid things that simply got overlooked by thinking my problem was way worse than it was.

Anyways, I got really excited after it ran and headed to the junk yards for "black friday" haha, i managed to snake some good deals too!

Picked up a 320i brake booster, OBD1 valve cover, new plastics, cooling hoses, and a bunch of much needed vacuum lines and connections that makes my build (engine parts wise) complete.

Sadly i am at school again and wont be able to work on it till middle of december.

I need to buy a driveline and new shift carrier then it will be on the road.
