    Loss of power?

Once again, back on the tow truck for the 10th time in 2 years.

I was driving up Torrey Pines road ( it's a big windy road ) with a buddy of mine, 4 gear pedal almost to the floor... when all of a sudden power just GAVE out completely.

I downshifted into third, no power.
    Downshifted into 2nd, no power.
1st, no power, but then it kicked in super hard, shifted into second really fast and putted up the hill to a buddies house. Pulled over, opened the hood and the throttle body was fine, car started fine, but check engine light was on.

I tried driving it around the block, anything above 2k RPMS and I had no power, just wanted to keep giving out.... and when the revs would come down it was hesitating to properly come down from higher RPMS. No idea what the problem is, we thought timing belt or throttle body but both seem to be ok. Now it just may be fuel pump or MAF? I did the Miller conversion so I'm praying it's nothing too bad. I'll update the thread later, car is at shop so hoping for the best.

I had a MAF go bad, miller replaced it. Car still worked fine @ WOT and at idle thanks to static maps, you should check your TPS.

Already put a ton of money into my m20, it's almost fully built. So S52 would kill me pricey wise :(.

You put a lot of money into it and it's still a terrible unreliable engine to you.
You dont need to go S52, M50 would suffice and it'll be cheap as hell and still make just a little bit more power than your M20 right now.
                M20s are high maintenance bitches.

                  FUuoooyykkke, I know it sucks.

Hmm, well M50 would be a nice choice but I'd really rather save for an S50 haha. Not gonna lie.....

that is the dumbest statement I have seen posted in quite a while on R3V!
the M20 is a dinosaur, there is nothing to it to even go bad. a valve adj. every 5 years along with a timing belt is by no means high maint.?????

sounds like a bad CPS, I had one do the same thing, I routed it incorrectly and the pulley rubbed through the cable.

Yeah, if that was my way of fixing problems, I would of replaced my engine 30 times. Do some diagnosing, check the basics. You'll figure it out.

Yah. Been saying it to you for a while. Keep dropping money on the M20. If you aren't boosting the M20 I just don't think it is worth the coin. I would swap it now... :)

Now to the problem. Does it feel like it is breaking up? It sounds like spark or fuel. Air should be fine ;) lulz

Coil? CPS? If you hold the gas down does it go eventually? Pull hard for a bit and then break up again?

                            Why? M52 + S52 cams. Spend less.

this topic has been beat to a pulp.
I've seen M20's last forever with no problems. I've seen them last for about an hour before it overheats.
My friend's M20 started up within .00000000001 seconds after it was sitting in his garage for 6 months. He never did any engine work to it and it worked like a charm (until his CPS started fucking up lulz), I had my M20 head remilled flat, new HG, new hoses, new coolant everything, everything done to spec and the right way. Still overheated.
days upon days upon days of diagnosing. if it wasn't overheating, it had a hard time starting randomly. I could do a HG job in about an hour and a half's time, i knew this motor like the back of my hand, but I just couldn't keep fucking around with it anymore.

So I guess it comes down to the person. I hate the M20 with a firey passion. Someone else might love it. But I know that going 24V and getting rid of the M20 was the best thing I ever did ;)
