Here is the story:
I have spent the last 4 or 5 months working to bring back an e30 from the dead in my spare time. I picked up an Alpine 1991 318is with unknown engine problems and a thrashed interior that I thought would be fun to build up after class and around work and sell once completed. What the car had going for it was that it was a clean title, rust free, all original VIN matching car that was damn near flawless on the outside. After a good amount if money invested, and countless hours removing, cleaning, replacing, and upgrading almost everything, I got the car 99% completed right before I left to head to my parents place Tuesday before the holiday. Wednesday around 3:30 am I get a call from my room mate that he heard a loud crash and came out into the driveway to find the car hit in the rear fairly hard and knocked off the jack stands it was sitting on at the time. The car had the rear wheels on, but I didnt get to installing the front end suspension before I had to pack up and head home. After the cops came and made a report, my buddy took some time to look around a bit better. The car moved about 6 feet forward when it was hit, unsure still of the extent of the front end damage from the car falling (my biggest fear when I get back home to inspect in person), and the driver side rear quarter took a good beating, not to mention the trunk was folded like a taco. So the question is from those with experience is, what do I show to insurance to get the true value out of this vehicle? I know to insurance its value isnt much, but the car thankfully had full insurance on it. Below is a list of what I had completed to make this a nice e30 for DD'ing.
Just a list off the top of my head of what the car had going for her:
1991 318iS AWII, all original body panels and paint, maplight rear view mirror, ellipsoids, M-Tech 1 steering wheel, full premium sound, heated vert sport seats, euro analog clock, new sony head unit, and crack free dash. The interior was completely removed and the carpet, rear shelf, and headliner were cleaned and dyed black. The seats are tan "natur". Bilstein HD shocks and struts, Racing Dynamics "green" springs from my 89 M3, new control arms, new e30 m3 offset CABS, 96 e36 m3 steering rack, z3 short shifter, weighted OEM M3 shift knob, brand new tires on the stock basketweaves. The stock m42 was removed. Grabbed a replacement m42 that came from a pair of 1995 318ti's, the block had 99k on it, the head had 114k before the machine shop rebuilt it completely. The engine has been painted, all new gaskets: oil pan (upper, lower), and the complete top end gasket set. New throw out bearing, spark plugs, full synthetic oil in trans and engine.
Guess I am posting this as an angry rant about the whole incident. I mean, I live across the street from a school, in a double car driveway, with the car parked 15 feet from the street against the garage. The guy did run after the crash so there is no one specifically to blame the fault on. If anything, Im not concerned with the money and time I invested that went to waste, just upset that the car cant be enjoyed by someone else now, it was just such a clean e30.
Ive never had anything like this happen to me, so I need to find out how to move from here. Do I tow the car in and get estimates on the damage, or will an adjuster come out and do that? I want to be educated on the process and have anything ready to hand over the AAA to be covered best from the accident. Ive read a good amount of e30 insurance horror stories here and other places, but dont know enough to be certain on where to go. The car was still non-op'd also if that matters

I did PM a few ppl in CA looking to buy a late model AWII e30 coupe. This was the car I mentioned, my apologies that I will not be able to help you find your new e30.
