    "Secondary" Thermostat, near firewall.

    REFERRING TO THIS THREAD http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/show...72#post3763172

Looking at what you guys' are doing about these "Secondary" Thermostats.

Apparently it was a recall they installed in our cars to keep HOT COOLANT from spraying all over your feet? How many of you guys are keeping these, and what you doing to "delete" or relocate them? I'm going to cross this thread into the Track sub forum as well.
Hoping to see some creative answers! Thanks for your time.

I delete that mess on any car that has it. The only case where it would be needed is if the driver is brain dead and doesn't shut down the car when the needle approaches the 3/4 mark.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Jlevie to the rescue again.. Thanks.

      Simple question here.

Does this hose, replace the monstrosity of hoses that connect to the "Secondary" Tstat? I have this hose at home, ready to install, just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to mess anything up.

Here's what I pulled off the car.

      - Description of the hose in question..

Thank you guys so much, especially Jlevie, your help with my project car is invaluable, as is the piece of mind getting it from you. Kudos.

I'm confused because what I removed has 4 hoses, the new one has 3...

no, that's the filler hose, you still need that.

There are now a mess of hoses in the parts system-
some keep that t- stat, others let you remove it.
Originally, BMW cut the long hoses and spliced that
t- stat in there. There's not really much room for it.
I ended up with more hoses than I needed- same problem.

Talked to my boss and came up with a solution. This is a drift car i'm building, I plan to remove the heater core here soon anyway.

Im going to pick up a BMW hose (ill grab the PN when i'm at work.) and connect it from the pipe at the rear of the head, to the pioe at the bottom of the Tstat housing and call it good. Less hoses, less clutter, less clamps, win win for this car IMO.

...and no heater core to pop and cook your feet. One more win!

                x2, I do the same.

It's pretty easy to "delete" this thermostat. Just order new hoses for the car and install them. ;)

Block the heater hoses. Don't loop them. By design ghey bypass the thermostat and you'll be circulating hot coolant back thru your engine.
