Made one for a customer so I figure I would offer a few on R3v.

Made using nickel plated 99.99% copper braid and same spec 3/8in hole connectors. Crimped using our industrial crimpers.

Normally the hinge and hold-down points provide good electrical contact, but with the right amount of dirt and corrosion you might get unlucky.

There is a effect here that most people wouldn't guess. The magnetic field from the alternator, moving metal parts and the spark plug discharge induce a small current in the hood. With vibrating metal-to-metal contact on a large metal panel, this can turn into a surprisingly powerful radio frequency noise transmitter. Well, not powerful compared to that 50KW talk-AM station down the street, but your radio is sitting right next to this one.

With certain types of metal corrosion you might even get non-linear conduction which raises the emitted frequency spectrum.
