    325is crash damage

This is a real downer. I've only had the car about two months. I've replaced timing belt, water pump, belts and hoses, driveshaft and flexdisc, changed all the fluids, etc.. Just got the H&R springs and Konis on it two weeks ago..

I stopped at a light behind a line of traffic. A kid in a '69 Mustang wasn't paying attention and *almost* missed hitting me. It wasn't a very hard impact and damage isn't stucutral, but it's probably about $4000 worth. I'm pretty sure they will total the car.

That blows man. I was in SLO in April with my car, nice place, and I saw E30s everywhere, so that could be good news for ya, in regards to picking up another one.

The bronzit curse lingers sadly. Looks like Kevin jinxed you looking at an old post, dead him.

That's definitely going to be totalled. Rear quarter panel damage on E30's equals a total los 9 times out of 10.

                  Sorry man, that blows.

                      Of course! :)

Stopped by a body shop this morning for an estimate, and they wouldn't even write a quote for me. He said it would easily be $3500 and probably more, so it would clearly be a write off. Makes sense since KBB and NADA book values are 2500, maybe 3000.

I looked it over good last night, and I really don't think there's any structural damage. His hood hit right above the bumper, that's what pushed the rear panel in and I think that's what buckled the quarter panel. I think it would straighten out pretty easily. But the fact is that I can find another just like it for $2000, so is it even worth the effort to fix it?

It's a shame because the car is in really good shape, and the damage is essentially cosmetic.

Obviously you don't know much about the classic car market because parts for classic mustangs can be found very cheap since there is tons of junkyards that only deal with mustangs, and company's like Year One and goodmark who make every bodypanel and part you can dream of at good prices for that kids car. I am also guessing that it wasn't the nicest car otherwise a kid would not have been driving it(if so I hate him) also that mustang is a much heavier car that is made of old fashioned steel so I am pretty shure it dished out more damage than it recieved. BtW 69-70 mustang coupes are worth less than 64 1/2-66 and 67-68, now if it was a fastback(FE car) or a mach1/boss then your are looking toward paying out the ass.

                            Total?

The car is only a total at some downtown body shop charging insurance company rates. Two body pulls on a frame machine and a used taillight - the rest is sheet metal repair and paint. A rebuilder could turn that car for $1250. It's only worth it if the mileage is low and the car is clean with good interior. Hope you don't get a sharp adjuster that asks how long you owned the car and what you paid for it. That's the "actual cash value" of the car right there. Unfortunately maintanence doesn't increase the value of a 15-20 year old car, it only keeps it from losing value because it needs repairs. You should swap out the shocks and springs if you let the car go.

Oh I got served by the newbz. Shit still cost money. Wonder if he can afford Year One, especially if he was a kid. It was in Cali, so who knows.
