The bad:
Mileage is approximate. Original odometer failed at 175,677 miles in November of 2011. The entire instrument cluster was replaced in April of 2012, including an odometer that read 128,049 at the time. Odometer currently functions and shows 147,221, so the car has been driven 19,172 miles in the past 10 years. Add it to the original mileage and the total is 194,849. I estimated 200k since the odometer was inoperable for approximately 5 months.
The instrument cluster has some of the electrical quirks seen in many e30s. The Brake Lining and Anti-Lock indicator lights are always illuminated. In addition, the fuel gauge works intermittently, and won’t drop below ¾ of a tank. The temp gauge seems fine.
The dash is cracked. The car comes with a new, still-wrapped Coverlay cover. This is a hard cover (plastic type material), not a cloth cover.
The front sport seats are cracked, and the driver side has a hole in the side.
The good:
Extensive maintenance/record history. It’s been owned by multiple people, but they all seemed to have loved the car and kept good records. I have receipts going back to 1991, which I will include with the car.
Body is in excellent condition. The car was repainted in July of 2013 at a cost of $8500 (only include the cost as a means of saying it wasn’t a Maaco rush job). The car was involved in a minor front-end collision in February of 2018. Total cost to repair was $1500, and included repairing the front spoiler lip, right fender, and some PDR in a couple spots. The repair was done at the same shop that did the paint in 2013.
Tires have very little mileage. The fronts were replaced in 2018, but only have 1000 miles on them. The rears were replaced in late March of this year, and have approximately 130 miles on them.
Recent maintenance (last year or so) includes:
The car isn’t perfect. As mentioned, the interior needs some work. There are some minor paint chips and it needs a good detail - but it’s very solid, runs well, and is a lot of fun to drive. If you’re looking for a 318is to enjoy, this is a great place to start.
