OK you bozos, you've had your chance!
Just to reiterate, anyone who inquires about this car... If most of your questions revolve around the paint... uhm... perhaps you shouldn't be looking at 25 year old cars, least of all this one. ;)Comment

any idea why its salvage? seems like a nice daily city beater but im looking for something i can auto-x and possibly track in the future so frame damage is out of the picture...Comment
-
I really wouldn't worry about the salvaged title at the price. I personally put about 30k on the car with no issue.Comment

Ok, I'm getting PM'd the same questions repeatedly.
I have not noticed any rust. This was clearly a California car and was garaged in the early part of its life.
What Matt told me at least ;) is that that the salvage came from a rear end hit long ago. He couldn't find any sign of it, and he spent a lotta time under this car. I can't find any sign of it either. Car goes straight down the road, and the rear end winds up exactly where you expect it to go when you break it loose, thats about the best you can ask for.
I easily have over $2500 tied up in this car. There are a lot of people interested in it. Therefore I will hold firm on the price. I also won't be giving any kids lessons on price negotiations, get your Dad to put down the newspaper and teach you something. ;)
Also, some really need to reset their expectations, for crying out loud, this is a CHEAP, QUARTER CENTURY-OLD "classic" car. Its gonna have some miles on it, and the paint ain't gonna be perfect. Try and find an '07 328 with 24K miles on the clock for twennythree hundred. Hey, if you find it, but don't like the interior color or some such, please PM me. Hell, I'd drive a PINK one under those circumstances.
Really, anybody who is serious about getting a turn-key fun car needs to get out of their Corolla and come out and drive this thing. Once you wind out 2nd or 3rd all of that other BS quickly fades away. ;)Comment

Update, sale pending, but it failed smog.
Pulled the 02 sensor, hooked it up to a voltmeter and hit it with the propane torch. Nada. Suckah was muy muerto.
Replaced o2 sensor, (1990 mustang, 1/2 the price of an e30!) but only drove it about 25 miles. Just barely failed the free re-test smog this morning. Smog guy said I shoulda run it about 100 miles to burn the shyte off the cat.
I'd rather pay another $40 for another round of smog roulette than shell out the green for a new cat! I gotta drive it to work a few days then try again on my day off Friday. Hopefully the prospective still wants it. ;)
We took it to his mechanic. Fairly swell guys, didn't seem like crooks at all.
Verified most of what I already knew, and disclosed:
The accident damage was entirely cosmetic. The muffler is Holy. ;) As is the downpipe. Head gasket leaks oil just like my old 528 did, although nowhere near as bad. Minor coolant leak at the throttle body pre-heater. Rear U-joint is worn.
Thats it!Comment

Well, at least you discovered the o2 sensor. No idea how old that one was to be honest!Comment

Passed smog this (effing finally!) morning, sold late this afternoon. Technically, it sold to the first guy who came and looked at it.
Did some math, and found I had only driven it a whole 1388 miles in the 15 months I owned it. The last 160 were just trying to burn the crap outta the cat. ;)
Thanks for the interest!Comment
