    WTB E30 Southern California

I am looking for an E30 convertible with less than 60K miles, manual. Anybody have one they are selling? Any tips on where/how to find one? Thank you!

60k on a rebuild or 60k total miles? One is more realistic on the other for a 20+ year old car. Also what's your price range?

I am looking for one with less than 60K total miles. I know that it will be hard to find but I am hopeful. I was looking to spend $5-10K. Any tips?

i definitely have more miles than you are asking, but it is one of the cleaner non-molested examples. i'm very hesitant to sell..

I'm not sure what you've seen so far, but I think you're going to need to expand your budget a bit to get an E30 w/sub-60K miles. They are out there, but obviously very rare.

CL would be one source, but I think you'll have to hit up BMWCCA, as they would have more pristine examples w/lower miles. Like I said, expect to pay.

I know of a 1988 E30 coupe with 46-47k original miles, 5 speed, red with a grey houndstooth interior that looks like it did when it rolled off the showroom floor. Not a vert, but it is in so cal and for sale.

                      Maintence>Mileage

Please allow me to break you of this buying strategy.

E30's love to be exercised regularly. These cars are engineered to last a very long time and over a million miles. And because they are so practical, economical and fun to drive many owners will drive them as primary car rather than a garage queen and rack up mileage.

Putting the blinders on and looking for a low mileage example means you will pass up many better options with better maintenance and condition/desirable options/colors. All of your seals and rubber are rotted on a car that has not been driven. Most low mileage examples have been left sitting for years and are mechanically in worse shape from those that are maintained properly and driven regularly. Unchanged coolant, brake fluids etc corrode, oil gums up etc etc.

Quite simply a nice example of an e30 or any 20+ year old car escapes the mileage/price structure of a newer car and should not be a factor in your search. My personal e30's have had 193,000 214,000 254,000 290,000 and 427,000 original miles and all of them ran and looked better than any e30 I have seen with a quarter as many miles. I always love asking average people who think low mileage=condition how many miles my cars have, they always come in at about 30% of the actual mileage.

The type of car you seek will not be on Craigslist. As stated above I would advise JOINING ($48) and regularly check the BMWCCA for sale section for a car from a mature fanatical owner and post a wanted ad there. By saying you want a low mileage car it sounds like you want a garaged numbers matching car with original paint and interior and a stack of maintenance records from a long time mature nonsmoking owner.

If this is your first e30 and you have any questions about selecting a perfect example feel free to pm me.

                          holy sheeeee-yiiiite!!!!

On another note, I completely agree with Wild Ride. All cars need to be used in order to maintain optimum performance. Seals, rubbers, grommets, etc. break down over time and without regular use. However, if you are set on a low-mileage example, I really think you are going to have to expand your budget.
