    WTT: 2002 Honda Insight for Roundie 2002 or a 1991 318is

    I'm looking to trade my 2002 Honda Insight. I want either a Roundie 2002 or a 1991 318is.

The Insight has 144k miles and I get 40+ MPG even the way I drive it. It is equipped with a CVT transmission, factory A/C, and still has the OEM radio. The hybrid battery was replaced at Honda's cost in February 2012. I put 4 new tires, Pirelli P4, shortly after I bought it in November 2011. It does handle well since I didn't opt for the OEM LRR tires. Runs well, has a small dent in the left rear quarter panel, the lightweight hood might have gotten caught by the wind at the dealership, and shows some wear inside. Since it's made of Aluminum, there is no rust.

I like the car, but it doesn't quite fit my driving style as well as I had hoped.

Since the Insight is my daily driver, I need another one to replace it. I'm not expecting a finished car, just one reliable for it's age. A manual transmission is required (I've already had 2 BMW automatics), as are basketweaves (any other design just doesn't look right). Blue is preferred, Silver/Grey are good. Every other color but Red and Orange are ok. I'll have to think about a car with either of those two colors.

I value the Insight at about $6000 and I do not have spousal approval to add cash into the deal. If your car is valued less, go faster bits not installed or BMW delivery/Insight pickup is accepted in leiu of cash. Especially a multicarb setup for the 2002.

    (Hopefully) Link to pictures:

Let me know if that link doesn't work or stops working.

True words. Market it to the right crowd and get the most $ for it.

I wanted one of these soo bad a few months ago. Wanted the manual though. These things are pretty neat if you can get past the fact that its a hybrid. Aluminum unibody, 1800lbs, 60+MPG highway for the manual.

Cash isn't going to get me back and forth to school. And with my usual luck, there won't be any of either on the market if I do cash it in. I'm not in a hurry to get rid of it. Just want to be ready for an opportunity.

And I wouldn't call it a money pit. I had an e46 that I spent more money in maintenance and repairs then I've spent on the Insight.

Ill trade you my e30 M3 shell for the insight.

My coworker has one with dead batteries. She says its the slowest thing she's ever driven & barely gets 30mpg.

Seriously, there are no hippies, and there is no used car market in Midland TX. It's probably the economic region domestically that has experienced the biggest growth nationwide in the last 6-8 years. Everyone owns a brand new 1 ton 4x4 truck or late model Corvette/Camaro and works in the oil industry.

I lived there for a year back in 2007 and probably had the oldest car in the city with my 92' Mtech II cabrio. I never once saw an e30 or even an e36 on the local craiglist. My folks and siblings all live there. Those pictures make me cringe thinking about the wasteland that is everything in a 200 mile radius of Midland.

Ya, without the hybrid bits working, it's pretty darn slow.

If her car is under 10 years old (by Honda's listed InService date), doesn't have a salvage title, and has less then 157k miles, she can take it to a Honda Dealer and they have to replace it under the warranty extension 06-027 or 06-057 depending on the state. That is the reason I bought it. Since it was showing an error on the used car lot, I managed to get it for half price. Then I drove it down to the local Honda dealer, gave them the service bulletin number, and they covered it, doubling it's value for free. Silly used car dealer didn't bother to properly check out the warranty status and just trusted a buddy at a Honda dealership.

If her car is not Silver, the guys at Insight Central will fight for the right to buy it. The other colors are pretty rare and desired.

Now about the M3 shell, how much of the car is there?

The distant picture was taken at the state park in the middle of Big Spring, the close up was in my "driveway".

Right now, I figure that 25% of the vehicles on the road are bigger then a 1 ton pickup (big work trucks and semis). Another 25% are normal vehicles (SUV, coupe and sedans). The remaining 50% are all 1/2, 3/4, and 1 ton pickups. I have seen the odd exotic such as a Gulf liveried Ford GT and an Ariel Atom.

When I was bought the Insight, there were 3 vehicles that were within 50 miles, within my price range, and of interest. The Insight won over a smoking and cheap B2200 club cab (probably blown valve seals) and some flake selling a 2 door Samurai to someone else. Everything else was an oversize pickup or commodity car.
