FS: Refreshed 87 euro sedan w/ glass moonroof

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> THIS CAR HAS BEEN SOLD <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

My wife and I are preparing for to adopt a child so I have decided to thin out my collection of vehicles. This one is the toughest, but I think it will go the quickest. I bought this 1987 325e in July of 2011 with 135k and spent 18 months going over every inch of it. I got rather carried away but it entertained me working on it so I don’t feel so bad. It now has 140k (yes the odometer works). I don’t think you will find another like this one so I am asking $5750 for it. I’m not under too much pressure to sell it fast so any offers should be reasonable. I’d like to get offers via PM vs. posts in the thread. I may be able to arrange delivery in the New England area.

Before going into the good stuff let’s get any bad things out of the way so you can move on if you are not interested. I am being painfully detailed with any issues.

    The Bad:

The paint looks great for a daily driver/commuter but it’s a DIY paint job that is over another DIY paint job. If you look closely you will find sanding marks, orange peel, touched up sand through, etc. Let call it an 18” paint job. It shines great, looks good from any normal distance but you will not win a show with it.

I get a couple drips a month from the shift selector shaft in the transmission.

The moonroof doesn’t “index” in the proper locations. It works perfectly; it just isn’t where it should be when the crank gives you the nudge that it’s in the open or closed positions. You need to go about a half crank past. There is a write up with steps for resolving this but it never really bothered me enough to take things apart.

Air conditioning has been converted to 134a and worked great when I bought it and last summer, but seems weak this summer. Everything is there, it all works, I would change the receiver/drier and recharge and it should be chilly again.

It’s an ETA motor… I have done what I can to get the most out of it including a Turner chip, 3.25 differential, dual tubular headers and dual exhaust, crazy thorough tune up, etc. The engine hasn’t been dressed up but it’s clean and doesn’t leak at all. It’s no slug and sounds great but I wouldn’t recommend street racing with it.

    Here is the good:

    The Body and Exterior:

No rust, none, not any at all, this is super rare in New England. I did have a dent in the rear quarter repaired along with getting the power antenna hole shaved. It looks like it had been in a previous minor front end accident in its past but it’s all straightened out and nothing was near the frame. Paint shines and looks great up to 18” and then you see some imperfections. The following is a list of new parts/work done/upgrades on the body (all new parts unless noted otherwise):
    • Used full set of front and rear euro bumpers salvaged from a federalized e30. This included trim, kidneys, euro grills, valance and lower lip. Bumpers were treated for light surface rust on the back and undercoated.
    • Euro specific mudflaps
    • Soffseal rubber body plugs for old rear bumper holes
    • Front and rear euro bumper mounts
    • Depot chrome euro smiley projector headlights
    • Euro headlight wiring upgrade (salvaged connectors)
    • PIAA Xtreme white headlight bulbs (high and low)
    • LED city lights wired as parking/marker lights
    • M3 fog light lenses
    • PIAA plasma ion fog light bulbs
    • Hella Supertone horns behind grilles
    • All red taillights (not new)
    • Tail light gaskets
    • Euro rear plate filler
    • License plate light lenses, bulbs and hardware
    • Windshield and lock strip
    • Windshield washer nozzles
    • Rear window lock strip
    • Chrome exterior window sill moldings
    • Front and rear outside window sill weather strips
    • Hood and trunk roundels
    • Bosch windshield wiper motor/transmission
    • Metra 44-UA46 amplified stubby roof antenna (to replace the shaved power antenna)
    • Glass moonroof (not new and moonroof shade not installed)
    • Moonroof gaskets
    • “IS” Trunklid spoiler (used)
    • Super cool silver vinyl pinstripe
    • Yakima roof rack with faring and 2 bike trays (includes keys for locks)
    • Vinyl paint protection film applied under bike rack

    Engine:

I have gone through and replaced nearly all of the exterior engine components. Compression test numbers were strong and the engine runs great so I have not messed with any internal parts.

The following is a list of things I have replaced on the engine (all new unless noted otherwise) including fuel system and exhaust parts.
    • Timing belt
    • Timing belt tensioner
    • Water pump

    • Heater hoses
    • Alternator, power steering and air conditioning drive belts
    • Spark Plugs
    • Bosch spark plug wire set
    • All silicone vacuum hoses
    • Air filter
    • Intake manifold boot
    • Intake air boot (outside air to airbox)
    • Remanufactured Air fuel meter
    • VDO idle control valve
    • Remanufactured Idle Control Module
    • Intake manifold gaskets
    • Throttle body gaskets

    • BavAuto style tubular headers and catless mid-pipes

    • Fuses (replaced all the old ones with new)
    • Race Skids, Skid Plate
    • Qwik Valve oil drain
    • Turner ECU 325e chip

    Suspension, Driveline and Brakes:

No issues here. The suspension came to me lowered on what I believe is BavAuto springs and Bilstein Sports. It rides quite nice for a daily driver so I generally left the suspension untouched focusing on wear items. Clutch is new and brakes are all new as well. The following is a list of new parts/work/upgrades done on the chassis:
    • Front control arms
    • Urethane control arm bushings
    • Steering end links
    • Front and rear sway bar end links

    • Rebuilt 3.25 LSD medium case differential
    • Z3 short shift arm
    • All shifter linkage parts, including the mount, boot, pins, bushings, shims, joints, etc.
    • Turner delrin shifter carrier bushings
    • OE transmission mounts
    • Driveshaft center support bearing
    • Transmission Flex Disc
    • Front and rear brake pads and rotors
    • E-brake hardware and shoes
    • Hard brake lines from diff to rear wheels including brake line tee
    • Staineless steel braided soft brake lines
    • HD rear upper shock mounts
    • 15x8 TRM C1 wheels in silver
    • Dunlap Direzza DZ 101 205/55R15
    • BMW badges for TRM wheel center caps

    Interior:

The interior is a 9/10. It’s black on black top to bottom. Black headliner, black leather seats, black door cards and black carpet and mats. There is a glass moonroof but I did not install the moonroof shade (I have it). The front headliner has no bubbles and the visors are in great shape. The dash has no cracks and there are not any trim parts or fasteners missing and everything works. Front seats are manual e36 sport seats and the rear seat is leather headrest type with the armrest/ski pass. All the stereo wiring was redone with the carpet and dash removed and I also replaced the HVAC seals and lubricated the cables and slides.

The following is a list of new parts/work/upgrades done on the interior:
    • Crack free dash swap (used dash)

I would not settle for anything less than asking price for that car.

That is amazing. I'd sell my E28 to have that as a daily but alas... the car was given to me for free and I must save it!
