So after not being in here since the sale of the car I like how everyone has jumped on me. Just to inform everyone the car had given me no issues. I drove the car several times before the sale also with no issues. As far as 200 miles to ocean city for h20. I have a video the day I took it to the transport truck it was running fine. I have the whole text convo from the buyer. Time stamped from him saying and I quote "it feels incredible" then two hours later I get a message about how it's not running properly and it's stalling. From http context of what I was sent it seems to be that it was ran extremely hard between the truck drop off and 300 mile trip home. I disclosed all info about the car. He'll several people know the car personally and know the condition. I have been a member of the e30 and BMW community for a long time, and owned several of these vehicles. Before everyone starts bashing know your facts.

Also why the hell would I do a build and reuse the same head gasket? What am I two years old. I out over 7k in parts in the car in under two years. I've been a tech for ten years now. I wouldn't half ass anything.

A car that breaks because "it was ran extremely hard between the truck drop off and 300 miles trip home" tells me:
1) You don't know how to build a motor properly
2) Don't know how to tune properly
3) Were selling the car because you probably figured something was wrong with the head since you replaced the gasket (since you're not 2 years old)
4) Would have to mean that the OP probably up'd the boost past what you, as the builder, recommened was safe for the tune.
I've ran all my cars "extremely hard" especially after I picked up my turbo M3 from TRM and I have never had an issue....any other excuse? You have to admit know that that excuse sounds pretty lame1997 Artic Silver M3

Frankly I dont know what to say. Im just tired frankly and dont want to even look back. Ive got the paperwork when it was dropped off from the transport company at 10pm packed my things gased my wifes car and e30 and noticed the temp was high I snapped a pic and sent it to you and off I went. Down the highway...no exhaust, no plates, no insurance or registration. I guess you believe id risk the car essentially being pulled over and towed away? Im a 40yr old man not some juvenile delinquent. I have what I have by being responsible. So you think I romped on it all the way home? Dude? Just send the magazine and the folder with receipts like you said you would and explain why you didnt specify the car didnt have a exhaust. ...or you know what dont bother. Im over it really. I frankly dont want to relive the whole experience. If you wouldve came on to the forum early on explaining your side and offering to walk me through figuring out what was wrong with the car I could truly respect that. But your post now in truth is just like the texts you sent me...you dont know anything and it aint your problem. I wish you could offer some solutions as your fellow e30 brothers have done. To whom which I owe great debt of gratitude for letting me know I aint alone in this mess. The last text I sent you I essentially pleaded with you about my situation and you just responded that you dont know anything essentially. If you would have texted me back days later and helped me out with advice and walk me through it I wouldve been gracious and thankful. I believe you knew the gasket was blown thats where I stand . Ive owned 4 of these cars in the past and rebuilt them in some form or fashion. I know when I saw the temp guage high I knew then it wasnt normal. I sent you that text when i was leaving san antonio...I drove it extremely chilled out becuase of the way it would heat up. I drove it at 50-55mph the whole way. Its nothing but darkness and lonely country roads to my town if it broke down I wohld be severly screwed sitting on the side of the road in complete darkness with my wife there with me....with no option of leaving the car obviously there by itself. The only reason I came to the forum was because you blew me off and I have no experience with turbo's. I understand youve come back...fine state your position and offer some help as to what I should do...that would seem pretty bad ass of you in my book...and maybe alot of the guys would think its cool and we all move on.sigpicComment

That really sucks. Read this whole thread. I had a customer buy a turbo e30 for 10k from this bullshit consignment shop in seattle, Munich Evolution. Totally ripped this kid off, not even a 6k car. Only thing it had going for it was the interior. Anyways, kid buys it and pops the hg on like 6psi. They replace it for free. Gets it back and same shit happens ON THE WAY HOME. Before people come at me for calling out munich evo let me cite some of the specific things they did.
Used oe head bolts
Did NOT use head bolt washers (really? Are you fucking kidding me?)
Did not reinstall the rocker shaft key/keeper that keeps the rocker shafts in proper orientation.
Hx35 was fucked, smoked bad even after i redid it all.
I ended up oringing the block and resurfacing the head. I also installed an aem wb o2 sensor and re did all of the vacuum routing.
As far as i know it still lives. But i just wanted to point out that i guarantee your po did not resurface the head, nor did munich evo. Shit happens to the best of us. I almost just bought a 95 540/6speed that turned out to be a fuckshit stack after driving 5hrs to look at it. I hope you get it sorted, its going to be worth it. Youll love the car.Comment

update...
Hey, Peyton i really appreciate that. I actually put it all back together today. New head gasket and resurfaced head. Torqued it down and its driving good. I lowered boost to about 10lbs . I haven't had any overheating. I'm going to drive it responsibly and maybe soon sometime i could get it up to 15lbs. I really owe the group a lot of thanks for helping out. I'll keep everyone updated on the progress. So far so good..sigpicComment

Finally good news. Very happy to hear. Hat's off to you for keeping your cool in a horrible situation.Comment

Congrats man...dont't forget to re check the torque after a heat cycle to make sure they the head bolts didn't come loose.
What head gasket did you end up using?

Hey, Beef thanks ..yeah i used the oem bmw gasket. The thick one. Im certainly going to re-torque. It was driving like a dream yesterday when i installed the head came home parked it and in the morning it wouldnt start...just crank and crank. I dont know. Maybe a wire came loose or maybe the belt skipped a tooth because the tensioner wasnt tight enough .
Maybe the crank position sensor was moved. Since its megasquirt im a little stumped. My fuel pressure guage shows pressure in the line. So im thinking spark...or some disconnected wire.sigpicComment

Glad the car is back in action and you handled the situation very well, I have turboed my e30 and have the same issue! I feel its my tune and a combination of the head needing to be resurfaced. Is your head welded?
Other note, When bleeding these cars i tend to have coolant drip down on the trigger wheel for the CPS and essintially the Crank position sensor is soaked and frosted coated due to coolant, Be sure to try in catch as much a you can with a rag or re-direct the bleeding coolant to back of engine bay if possible, Otherwise remove CPS and clean very well! I eventually recieved no signal and had to replace.
Please keep us posted and I hope its all down hill from here bud

Fudd..hey ive followed your thread for a while on your turbo convertible. I had the same pushing issue that you had....actually nearly exactly. No I didnt weld the head ..but if it pushes again I probably will. After checking the spark which I had I ended up turning the crank to see if it was in time and it wasnt.. it was off by about a tooth and a half. So tonight I'm going to take off crank pulley and set timing to the mark on the block. I hope I didn't damage any valves.sigpicComment
