$30k and 180k miles. hell no. after having an m3. there is no way in hell it's worth 30k. i could think of so many cars what would be more fun to drive for $30,000
Whenever I am about to make a particularly questionable decision regarding a worryingly cheap diy solution, I just ask myself, "What would Ether-D do?"
M3 prices have spiked over the last two years due to a few really collectible examples selling for outrageous prices. Dealers are listing E30 M3's for close to or above $40k now. It only follows that many private owners now believe their car is worth at least $30k, regardless of condition. It is similar to what happened with the early and mid-year air-cooled 911 market.
There are still good deals out there, but very hard to find. For those interested, there is a rather high mileage but very original E30 M3 on the Bay Area Craigslist posted last night for an asking of $21k. Probably sold by now though to a dealer.
My dreams of buying an m3 are dwindling while ridiculous asking prices influence sellers to overprice their cars. I'm sad!
If I were to sell an M3, it would also have a high asking price because I can always adjust it. If I advertise my car and it sells the next day...obviously I've priced it too low but then it's too late and the car is gone. This is good for guys like Zinno who got a fair deal but isn't too smart for sellers. It seems like silly money but the reality of it is people are buying the cars up quick. Regular E30's are now benefiting from the M3 market as well. EAG is now listing several clean/unique E30's including that 320iS for $38k. They only have to find one buyer who just has to have it.
"I'd probably take the E30 M3 in this case just because I love that little car, and how tanky that inline 6 is." - thecj
I am a proponent of high prices for the right car, but this not the right car for $30K. I've seen cleaner M's sell in the teens. What really cracks me up is his local Craig's list ad that says he's firm on the price.
I can't help but to feel that this guy is just trying to ride the e30 M3 wave with a car that isn't all that nice. Some of these pictures tell the story of a car that needs serious TLC http://monovich.com/blackpearl/?p=503
