WTB: minimal rust E30 IX coupe

Show me what you got. I'll fly out and drive it back to Chicago. IX coupe only. 88s with 5 speeds preferred, stock with minimal rust.

I already have an 88 IX coupe I'm restoring (link in my sig). the floor pan rust just depresses the hell out me lol. Already repairing it but I'm really interested I finding out what else it out there.

Do you own a welder? Or is it too far gone for even that? I have seen other types of cars with horrible rust that have been repaired quite decently. It's just a matter of how far you want to take it.

Has there ever been a discussion of buying an E30 shell and moving an IX drivetrain onto it?

My best advice would be forget it and to go E46--they're very nice cars for the most part.

Not sure of actual rust on either one, I never went to look at them or anything as I have my hands full with what I already got going.

Actually I just sold a mint E46 M3 with 29k miles. Truly awesome car.

Yeah I have A nice Lincoln 180c welder so I'm set there. Also have all the replacement sheet metal parts and a source for floor pan sections. It's also already about 90% done mechanically with all new parts.

So I'm def gonna finish my Lachsilber IX, but I want a minimal rust IX coupe to play with too. I'll sell one of them and move from there

The shock towers are completely different. There are other diffs in the body shell as well. That's why you don't see IX drivetrain conversions around. You do see some incredible examples of IX drivetrain upgrades though. Nando is working one stealth, and there's a couple of guys in europe with some incredible build threads.

This car is in very strong condition mechanically and cosmetically - everything works including the AC, and it has a ski-pass rear seat. comfort seats and auto unfortunately, but most of the floor pan is completely intact - 3 rust locations, none structural or serious. It's owned by an indie euro mechanic. Looks damn good actually.



Just found out it has a salvage title though. found through car fax - seller mentioned mechanical repairs but didn't disclose that the car had been totaled. It's actually very likely that he really didn't know - his paper title is completely clean, so the mechanical repairs could have been reported as an accident or something. Definitely no body damage so it was totaled for purely mechanical reasons. Anyway, if the salvage title thing is not important to you as an IX buyer, this is a good candidate.

that $7k car looks sweet - just like the minnesota car with the salvage title for twice the price lol. comfort seats, 4 spoke and auto trans.. bmw must have built most of the IX coupes that way.

Dude between the Alpina bits and all the other work you've done there... AND if you throw in those houndstooth seats.. definitely one of the top 5-10 IXes in the country I'd say.
