Man if I could I'd buy this in a heartbeat, already over 25yrs old so no more emissions.

Excellent price for a clean DD ready touring, especially that's already imported and legalized. Nothing wrong with an m40

I guess it's that time, didn't want to do it, but that's how it goes.

What are the laws about emissions?

Depends on state and even region/county concerning emissions.

In CA you'd have to get it tested. However, as it complies with Euro 4 emissions, has a catalyst and is stock mechanically it shouldn't be an issue to pass it. It probably comes down to who ends up doing the emissions/safety inspection as to how easy it is to get it passed, but it shouldn't be a huge deal with this car.

In many states you can either register it as historic/classic/whatever and get an emissions exemption. In the rest, excluding CA, it should just be a matter of complying with the year of manufacture emission standards. In the latter case the car should pass with no issues. Certain states also have gone to an only OBD testing measure, and as such this car would be exempted.

As TM said, check your local regulations.

For me here in WA cars have to get emission tests done every other year until they are 25 yrs old. At least for my state wouldn't have to worry about emissions for any e30 '89 or older.

I have been checking on this touring since day 1 it was posted for sale. I have been tempted to make an offer but Im afraid it will be a big hassle to register it here in California. "Certificate of Conformance" seems to be a very complicated phrase to me.

While I don't see tourings going crazy in price I also don't see them going down at all as they become less common and more desirable both in Europe and in the US. As such, I would act on a decent one sooner rather than later as I did. I have no regrets there as the car is very practical and unusual enough to draw attention without being flashy. It's also essentially a stripper model with a sunroof, so it's cheaper than most, and is being sold by a reasonable human being who actually likes E30s, not just someone out to make a quick buck.

Also, feel free to make an offer, you never know, I might just accept.

Read around further. With 5 minutes of searching I found that it does not appear to be a major hassle to register this car. Probably no more so than a regular US car that was not California compliant for the year of manufacture. Also, do call the people who administer the compliance program and get an actual run down on what you'd need to do. If having the VIN would help I'll post it.

Anyone in CA who own a e30 Touring who went through the process of "Certificate of Conformance" could probably give us more detailed information on things that need to be done....help would be appreciated.

Final price drop to $7800, not much room in that for bargaining, but who knows. Would really like the touring to find a new owner ASAP.

It's times like these when I really want $7800 to spend. Arrrrrgh.
