I can tell you that the cost of building that thing was probably around that number, though. There's an absolutely absurd amount of very high quality (if occasionally misguided) fabrication in there.
The car is awesome, the ad is juvenile. Just my opinion.

An appropriate offer for a vladmobile, but this is not, as you know.

I do wonder about the asking price.

          http://www.carbuildindex.com/13213/b...er-motorsport/ listed the cost at:
          $90,000 for labor (1,000 hours at $90/hr)
$33,000 for the stroker motor with a core swap
          $13,000 for “sub/suspension/brakes”

$224,500-$136,000=$88,500. Is that all profit or is there more to the story?

The stroker *kit* is $30k. Plus he bought a drivetrain beforehand. So that estimate is WAY low on the drivetrain. Don't forget the standalone system. I'd be surprised if the drivetrain was less than $60k on its own. Shit, the fuel system alone is a couple grand in parts. Especially when you take into account when this car was built, I'd be more inclined to put the parts cost of the drivetrain alone at $75k.

(I just looked for pricing on the Pectel engine management - no one is listing prices, but I found an ad for a surplus kit at $12.5k with lots of comments on how that is "cheap.")

Also, $13,000 for the "sub/suspension/brakes" sounds very low to me. They bought a LOT of parts new from BMW and bought/fabricated a lot of aftermarket pieces as well. I mean, hell, a high end four wheel BBK and a decent set of coilovers would use most of that budget on their own.

Net-net, that estimate that they cited has literally no basis in reality that I can see.

Edit: And $15k is WAY high for a Vladmobile.

Edit2: And as your link noted, that cost estimate doesn't include the donor.

I am not going to comment on the price... but do some of you realize what car this is?!? This car was not only in several magazines a few years ago, but is also heavily documented all over the internet. It is essentially an e90 with a Dinan V10 in an e30 M3 shell. It has the e30 M3 looks, handling capabilities beyond the e90 chassis, and one of the best (if not the best) BMW motors ever built. The stroker and the standalone system are $50K by themselves. This build is well over $100K, and the car is ONE OF A KIND. Some of the ignorance posted in here is plain staggering.

Yeah, I saw the original car was excluded, but after I posted. There are some other E30M3 V10 swaps out there, but this one is something else indeed. The eBay listing sure doesn't make clear why its so special. If they really expect that kind of money maybe a different approach would be better, hell if I know.

Suffice to say, if we did not all recognize that car, we wouldn't give much credit to it based on that ad.

So if i buy an e30, then pay someone stooopid money to fix it up, can i go and recoup all the labour cost? Hell no. Just because you were an idiot with your money dont expect that the money spend = same value.

You see it all the time with riced out civic. 30k in mods....thanks for paying someones mortgage bud, dont expect someone else to pay you for it.

I don't care what kind of custom work this car has we're talking about almost a quarter million dollars, you can buy two super cars, like a Porsche GT3, Audi R8, Ferrari, Lamborghini and so many cool cars you can get, problem with this kind of custom work is only appealing to the owner and very few others

This is a pipe dream, i don't care how many magazines this car has been it and i hope the owner of the car reads this, there is NO way this build cost anything close to his asking price but im sure he'll find some idiot that will pay a lot more then its worth but no where near 225K...as the saying goes, a fool and his money are soon parted...gimme a 458 or a 650s and id blow the doors off that car, that v10 motor is overrated to begin with, they burn oil, guzzle gas and are not reliable, id rather have a clean stock e30 m3 with low miles then that overpriced "1 of 1 racecar"... its 1 of 1 because you're the only one stupid enough to do it
