I can tell you that the cost of building that thing was probably around that number, though. There's an absolutely absurd amount of very high quality (if occasionally misguided) fabrication in there.

Would I buy this instead of a McLaren or a Ferrari? Fuck no. Do I think it's work what it cost? Fuck no. Did it cost $200k to build? I strongly suspect that the answer is yes. (OK, and checking on it, the cost number is more like $250k.)

You may have been in the car business for a long time, but you have *clearly* learned literally nothing about the cost of high end fabrication and custom work. Could you do a V10 E30 M3 for $60K all in? Yes, of course. But would it be built to the same level? Not even close.

(And for the record, I know the builder and have met the guy who paid for it.)

In his defense the cost of a "project" on r3v usually goes something like this:

$450 clapped out eta shell + $500 or an s50 with 200k miles on it + $100 "misc" = effing show car, brah

^ haha. Yeah, this build is on another level entirely. Despite the blank check build, I wished they didn't use an actual M3...because they really didn't have to. Seems nothing was left untouched. Anyway, I have no doubt it cost $200k +, it's just mindblowing to see them trying to get it all back. A lot of people who do these crazy builds never seem to keep em. I guess it's off to the next dream build for them.
