In all honesty- I am surprised you haven't sold at least one of the tourings.... I think any of the BMW's you have listed would be very entertaining to drive.... ( I can't speak to the Contour- just not my thing...)

If I were in a position to unload my M3, I would be having a serious discussion about one of the tourings.... and I would DD the hell out of it....

Hmm, I've done both and I can assure you no A/C is mo betta.

Yet E28s have the most complex HVAC unit known to mankind, surprising.

In any case, I have the HVAC box, lines & compressor and most of the crap a buyer might need to retrofit A/C in any of these cars. That is, if you have like 10+ hours of time to spend working on it or even the desire to try.

I'll just say it, I don't like working on M20s. But I adore M42s and consider them much easier to work on and live with, if you can stand the lack of oomph. Do remember that the M40 shares the bottom end with an M42 AFAIK and is even less complex topside.

The 324 is very different, the 318i is a very enjoyable stock E30, with all the merits that entails (if you've not driven a sorted, stock E30 just try it) and the 320 is a car with some real potential & a beautiful color. They all have a distinctly different feel to a regular E30, and you could almost forget what continent you are on when you go to get in or see yourself in a window while driving...and then your view is blocked by yet another giant SUV.

I went by Gaelan's place to pick up some parts today, and he let me test drive the 318 touring. I really couldn't tell the difference between my M42 and the M40. The touring drove pretty good, and would make a great daily..for those of you who are unsure about the M40. My first time driving an M40 e30 btw.

          '91 318i (Alpine) - daily
'88 325ix (Zinno) - drive here and there!

Not sure if this is healthy praise for the M40, or lukewarm affection for the M42?

It really is a very lame thing to say. As one of my friends told me, marriage isn't 50/50, it's 100/100, and both sides need to give 100%/be very willing to compromise to make it work. That means that the adage happy wife, happy life, while true on the surface ultimately means that you have a one sided relationship. After all, she probably buys things without consulting you, right? So why can't you?

As a Russian might say, "don't be bitch."

It's the most common excuse I hear for someone wanting something, but not getting it.

The truth of the matter is that a majority of girlfriends and wives seem to find these wagons both practical and cute. They are also a fairly unique vehicle in the US, and we all know that the ladies love to have something unique with a good story that none of their friends have, even if it a 25+ year old BMW. So, you know, you can always buy it for her and not for you.

Lame or not it's the truth she has 3 of her own bmws I have 8 2 trucks and 3 boats. Three of the bmws are track cars I guess i could of been more clear I would need to get rid of a car or my wife would kill me.
Regardless I'm gonna try and work it
